I just bought a CD burner and I wanted to find a good place to get some music from to make my own CD's. I'm not terribly opposed to paying a small monthly fee if necessary, but I just need a good sight. I've seen some that say they have music for MP3's. Can I use that same download to make CD's?

MP3.com has a lot of good MP3 downloads for free, once you register. In order to burn them to CD, you'll need an uncompression/conversion utility, to convert the files to .wav format. If you need one, you should be able to go to download.com and track a good program down for free. I've never tried emusic.com, but they offer unlimited music downloads - with a number of major-label artists - for $9.95 per month. Those are the safest sites I know of - others such as Morpheus and Gnutella are too high a security risk to chance using, and are under legal fire from the recording industry.

bearshare.com
kazaa.com

U can get music here but be carful they are like napster :p

The 2 I said above have free versions and they are all you need.

Free is always good (sometimes) :D

If you use kazza make sure you use the kazzalite version it has the spyware taken out .

If you do use any of the napster like services be sure to download "Ad-aware" from lavasoft it will get rid of spyware, some of the downloads will have it in them also.

Kazaa and Morpheus and the best in my opinion. Use em both. Can find anything I need on either one.

There's another out there and of course, it uses spyware, but what the heck, you can turn it off. Grokster.com is where I get everything from music to software. Included are videos etc. I've never had any trouble, but then again, I have a great firewall and antivirus program.

Thanks for the info guys. I will try that once I figure out why I have no sound ever since I installed my own CD burner:satisfied

I tried kazaa.com but it took me like 10 minutes to download half of a song. I don't really want a project like that. Are there any sites that are quicker than kazza?

The places that you download for free usually carry alot of viruses. The ones you pay for usually don't. Just my .02 though.

I sure miss napster..............I used to get some good tunes on there...........:(

I just started using Napster a couple of weeks before they shut it down. I then used a place called audiogalazy but that site has alot of problems now.

You probably don't have sound because you need to connect the audio wire to your sound card from the back of your CD Writer.

I thought the same thing, so I took it back apart to recheck the connection. I then saw that the speaker wire had come out of the tower when I had it pulled out to replace the CD drive. Pretty stupid huh?

Oh well, I just signed up for a free 2 month trial of broadband so that should speed up my downloads considerably. Now I just have to wait for the cable company to get around to installing my modem for it.:)

4xer, as I said once before, I use grokster.com for all my downloads. Yeah, they have spyware and you can get viruses there, but I've got a great anti-virus and can disable the spyware, so this is where I go. Downloading music, or anything else fast depends on a number of things. To really get it fast, both parties must have perfect setups. Otherwise, it can vary a lot. Be patient and go ahead and choose what you want to download. I've downloaded well over 2,000 songs, not to mention videos and software. It won't all come in one day. But with your new broadband, it is so much faster. Right? :D

Right buckaroo. I can't blieve how much faster it is. I have downloaded Kazaa, winmx, and bearshare so far. I'm not sure which ones I will keep. I will try gokster next. Thanks for the tips!:)

Grokster and kazaa work together. However, I believe that on grokster, you are able to get more. I do know that when I look for something, it includes those who use kazaa.
