CLERMONT, Ind. (AP) -- Chad Chaffin passed Johnny Sauter on the outside with less than a half-lap remaining Friday to win his second NASCAR Craftsman Truck series race of the year.

The victory in the Power Stroke Diesel 200 was Chaffin's first since the MBNA American 200 on June 4. Car owner Bobby Hamilton finished third and took over the series points lead after 14 of 25 races.

Sauter, a Nextel Cup rookie, appeared headed for his first truck victory, leading Dennis Setzer by almost 10 seconds before the yellow caution came out for debris on the track with 23 laps to go.

That cut Sauter's lead to less than a second, but he still seemed in control until the final yellow for a spin by Steve Park with eight laps left.

The green came out for the final five laps, and when Sauter made slight contact with the charging Travis Kvapil, Chaffin was able to get by both drivers for the victory, beating Sauter to the line by 0.348 seconds.

The last lap on the .686-mile Indianapolis Raceway Park oval was the only one that Chaffin led.

Pole-winner Jack Sprague led at the start, but the race was slowed by a series of early cautions, first when rookie Mark McFarland banged the wall on the 10th lap, and again when Michael Waltrip spun hard into the wall five laps later. Neither driver was hurt.

Bill Lester brought out the third yellow on lap 35, when he spun in the fourth turn and was clipped by David Ragan. Sauter, who had passed Mike Skinner for second place just before Lester's spin, pulled even with Sprague when the green came out and then passed him for the lead on the next lap.

Sauter began lapping the slowest cars and held two-second lead over Kvapil, who also got around Sprague as the field began spreading out over the next 30 laps.

All the leaders made their first stops after the next yellow, when Ken Schrader spun into the wall, and Kvapil beat Sauter out of the pits to take the lead.

Sauter regained the lead with a pass on lap 97 and stayed in front until Chaffin's move on the final lap.
