Apparently back in the 70's David was winning so many poles at Charlotte that Humpy decided to put an end to it. On the advice of Banjo Matthews, who said David's secret was the way he went into turn one, Humpy dug up 300 feet of the track and reconfigured it in turn one just mess David up on pole day.
Didn't work, David won the pole anyway. Wheeler was in his office following qualifying when he gets a phone call. It's Pearson who says only "You fixed the wrong turn"
