Im heading to Talladega this weekend (both... the Truck race on Sat, and Cup race on Sunday), and was wondering if anyone has ever been there and can give me some pointers? I've only been to races at Dover so this is new to me.

My understanding is the traffic is so bad lots of people go once and refuse to go again.. So is there any tricks to this?

Here are some of my questions...

I was told prerace all lanes head in, post race all roads head out, this true?
Is there a better place to park than others?
Im staying in Birmingham, besides the obvious route is there any back ways that might be quicker?
What time do you suggest I leave Birmingham?
Where(what turn/s) are the access to the infield, thats where I need to go?

basicly an info or tips you can give me would be great.

Thanks,
Bob

Been to 2 cup and 1 busch. and Loved it. but i was always with someone else, so i dont know anything about the traffic.

Hey Bob...

I went to Talledega in 2004 and had a great time. We stayed in Birmingham also (near the airport) and the best suggestion I can give you is LEAVE EARLY to go to the track!!! We were on the road by 7 a.m. As for the lane information...yes...all lanes head in pre-race and head out post-race. If you arrive early enough, you will be directed to a better parking space. The traffic is bad, but it's entertaining...guys bbq'ing in the back of trucks and drinking beer....I would go again in a heartbeat. Have a great time!

Just one more thing for you....on Sunday when we left the track after the race, it took us three hours to get back to Birmingham, so I hope you don't have to rush to get back. If you have anymore questions, just email me. Hope this helps.

I have been to Deag 4 times and for me the best place to part in on the side of the highway going in the track. All lanes go in before the race I usly get there 4 hours early and park in the cautian lanes on the side, so when race is over and I looked thure the Murchidise trucks I get back to my truck and have no problims getting back on the road and heading back and missing half the trafic. There is a little walking but its easser. I do the same at bristial parking beside the 4 lane.

Went in 2000, so don't know how the traffic issues may have changed but, we were there for quite a while before we got out of the track. Wasn't as bad a getting "IN" for Martinsville, though. spok4...if that was planned, that was hilarious, if not...have a good day & thanks for the input.

Thanks for all the info. I can't wait!! A friend of a friend works for Bill Davis Racing, so I have all passes as well. So lots of excitement building up in the next couple of days!

This may be too late to do you any good, but there's a little trick you can use to get out of the track quicker. Talladega has several paved lanes, but there are also gravel lanes on either side of the pavement. Lots of people don't realize you can drive on those, but you can, and it will get you out a lot quicker.

Never been...

Always wanted to go. I've been to Daytona but you can't see much there. I mean, you can probably see alotm ore now ever since they built and expanded the Nextel tower and added more seats but when I went you couldn't see the entire track. Not to mention, now it would be a few seconds of cars in front of you and then you could carry on a conversation before they come back around.
