I hadn't really followed this all that closely but man, what a weird story. I just read a little bit of this guys manifesto. If you're interested, it can be found here. It is quite long but certainly outlines a deranged individual on a mission.

If there's already a thread on this than by all means delete this thread. I just didn't see one.
 
It looks like they may have stopped him. Surrounded in a cabin in the woods near Big Bear lake in California, the cabin burned down and they have found the charred remains, possibly belonging to him. Jeez, the scene described sounded like the 1981 Bronson movie "Death Hunt."
 
Some recording caught the officers repeatedly screaming "burn that mother ........... to the ground! Not sure if that was before it was burning or after the fire started.
 
Hmm, have you ever seen these two together? No? Didn't think so.
