My coonhound, Gus, started climbing over my 6 foot fence yesterday someone brought him home. I can't figure it out, hes neutered, never did this before. Anyone have any ideas on how to keep him in the yard?

Build a higher fence? Do you chain him down? Sad story: My friends dog climbed a fense while he was still chained. He made it over the fence but the chain wasn't long enough so he ended up being hanged. Very sad. I don't know why I shared this but...

I won't chain him up, my dad said to tie a tire around him. Said thats what they did in the old days. I had a dog that was chained up get attacked by racoons once, won't do that again.

Spring hunting fever...he'll calm down.

I have an unneutered male bassett, and I have to keep him tied in a pen after a stray taught him to dig. I hate it, but being a bassett he would (and has) got on a scent and looked up 5 miles later wondering where he is. He like most of his breed is not quite astute enough to realize that if he followed the same scent back, he'd get home. Gotta love a bassett.

Do something temporary, like tying a concrete block to his lead, until the season starts to fade. Hunting dogs get that way in the spring, it's actually a sign of a good dog.

Get an invisable fence. It will shock the crap out of him, but he WILL learn. ;)

A shock collar. We had similar problems growing up with our redticks.

Strap it on,watch for him to climb, zap his a$$ when he does.It will break him pretty quick.

More humane than it sounds...I remember one time growing up,Daddy wanted to 'test the range' on one of those collars...

Lets just say my little brother never WAS that smart!!You should have seen his expression. It sure broke HIM from running down the road holding a shock collar, though!
