TNT reported that KB had a failed left rear hub and it appeared it took about 15 minutes to replace the hub. Unfortunately, for the 5 or 6 fans he actually has, the repair did not seem to fix his issues. Were they using an experimental lightweight hub? Something didn't seem right because Denny and Matt didn't have the same issue, and if they build all of their cars to spec in the shop, you would expect all three to have similar problems.

That's funny, but it would be interesting to find out why the part failed. JGR has been known to push the envelope with unapproved parts to gain a slight advantage. Just curious.

My guess would be a lugnut got in there from the previous pit stop and tore it up.Or could just be a bad part.Happens once in a while.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know it takes so long to change a hub. I can change one in my Ford in less than 10 minutes, and that includes R&I of the wheel/tire. It's all modular now.

I imagine if the hub was cooled off they could have done it quicker too.

Welcome to the forum spindoc :waver: Always good to have another bowtie round here.

I think Kahne's balls finally dropped & one found its way into Kyle's rotor :D

A lugnut may get into the brake rotor, but i don't see how it could get into the hub. The hub is sealed with wheel bearings and oil in it.

"edit" I just saw a shot of it on Race Hub and they said it was a faulty left rear hub. That probably means the wheel bearing was seizing up inside the hub.

Here is link to Timken. It will show you a little more about the hubs and bearings. Timken makes hubs and bearing for anything from race cars to the race car haulers

I'm there right at this very moment.:p

Cool selfie:)...If it rolls, then there is a good chance that it has a temken bearing in it. I have used temken bearings my whole life, and the only time i ever had a faliure was when a truck stop mechanic changed a hub seal on my truck and forgot to put oil back in the hub in 1985. I was on the way to the Daytona 500 and i got about 30 miles from the truck stop before it seized up. It acted just like Kyle busch said his car acted...it felt like a transmission bearing was trying to seize up. I had it towed to a shop about 5 miles away and it had damaged the housing enough that they had to put a new rearend housing in the truck. So, i rented a car and headed on to the Daytona 500 for two weeks. Bill Elliott won.:D

Yeah, they cheat their asses off. Come on man. Are you as concerned about Harvick's hub failure at Bristol earlier in the year?

With the new slammed set ups more is asked of the tire, and in turn more is asked of the bits that turn the wheel. JGR has been on the conservative side of the air pressure/set up game. Probably shows.

They have to be cheating, no other explanation for their "freaky fast" cars
