I decided to drop this here instead of chat. 1st, I don't have a dog in this but knowing we may have a few peeps that like to get behind the wheel this looks to be a good opportunity that I saw on Jayski.

Brewco Motorsports is looking for fulltime show car drivers. CDL not required, but recommended. Competitive salary, health benefits and 401(K). Please fax resume to: 270-754-4498 or email to [email protected].(6-26-2007)

Ok, its not a racing deal. Its not a top team. But, maybe it gets your foot in the door.

If anyone decides this goes against the ad policy, my apologies. And, certainly delete this if you want.

Man that would be awesome if I was stateside N about to get out of the Air Force. I wanna drive one of those showcar trucks sooo bad. I was at Wal-Mart a few years ago in Vegas N the #81 DEI Kraft car was on display in front of the store. I spoke with the showcar truck driver about how he got the gig N he said he just applied for it N that was it that he wasn't even much of a race fan. Man I would do that job for nothing, I know I could get hired immediately for that. I would encourage anyone with opportunity & time to jump on that. There ain't nuthin like being able to say you work for a NASCAR race team even if i'm just the guy who gets everyones coffee N Krispy Kreme's in the morning. I had a part time gig at Las Vegas Motor Speedway before going to Korea. I told my boss when she hired me that she didn't have to pay me anything but she insisted so I said OK N that she could pay me with diecast cars. I pretty much still work there cause I fly back on leave still to work the races.

Don't know about Brewco but there are a lot more show car managers leaning towards husband and wife teams on the road.

I know that kept me from getting a job with JGR as they hire almost all husband and wife teams. I prefer to work alone at my pace so that pretty much eliminated me from the competition even though I had several years experience.

Being on the road can be a tough life sometimes. Back in 2005, I spent 199 nights in motels in one season. Recently, I did hospitality at Michigan, drove on the Sonoma to hospitality there, went up to Detroit and then came back to NC and was only home for two days when I picked up a different program car and went on to Chicago for a week. I got home Monday and tomorrow I head for Vegas and then on to Indy.

If you like driving, this is a great job. The Michigan-Vegas trip was about 6,800 miles in two and half weeks. And some of those days were spent just being around the race track. Not uncommon to do 800 miles in a day out west and maybe around 700 a day on the east side of the country.

And hospitality usually means getting up at 4 am, leaving the motel at 5 so you can be at the track at 6 am. Did that at Chicago this weekend, then had to load up the car and drive to Nashville to swap rigs with soneone on Monday morning.

If you don't do the track events, then it means that you will probably will have to sit out in front of some store for 4 to 8 hours answering the same questions that you have heard for years. lol No, I am not complaining; just seems like some questions never die.

If you are lucky, you may get a trade show or convention to attend. My show in Vegas is case in point. Arrive on Saturday at Ceaser's Palace, load in and set up the car and a two seat simulator pod on Sunday, do the show on Monday and leave immediately on moday evening and start towards Indy.

And the single car trailers are ok. They are usually 28 to 32 ft in length (floor space) and can be parked in many motels if you get in early enough in the evening. If you have a 40 ft two car trailer like mine, it is a pain in the ass. Got to pre-book motels in major cities as there aren't many places you can park that thing. It is almost as long as an 18 wheeler and it takes up 8 parking spaces at a motel. A lot of cheap motels have truck parking but I don't like staying in them. The Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn and some Marriots are preferred. Better beds to sleep in and maybe even a free breakfast.

Doing a show car rig can be loads of fun. Meeting people is the best part of my job. Meeting nice people is even better. Meeting drunks and dickheads at the race track is not so nice. But you have to deal with them diplomatically and sometimes you have to be a bit more forceful.

But all in all, it is a good job. Been doing it since April of 99 and I hope to continue for many years to come. As long as I can drive, age doesn't seem to be a problem. Actually, the older folks are more preferred as they are usually retired, have a good work ethic and enjoy what they are doing. What most managers don't want is some young hot-shot that is going to tear up the equipment.

A job would interfere with my 'blueberry picking". I found a place that has a field of blueberries. Probably the only place in 6 Counties that didn't get cleaned out by the freeze in early spring. In 2 days (total of 3 hours) I have picked 12 pounds of blueberries. It was a little hot though in the 94 degree temp. :)

Mugglenot, if ya find that you have some x-tra blueberries, I really LOVE them. Annnnnnnnd, the docs tell me they are really good for what ails me.

Do snakes hang out with blueberries like they do with blackberries?
Not anywhere near like they do with blackberries. rattlesnakes especially like to hang out with blackberries.

We had a little rain this afternoon and it should help plump up the blueberries. I will go and do some more picking again next Monday or Tuesday. My wife makes blueberry muffins every week all year long....but they are only for her. :) We are freezing them for her use during the year. I love them on cereal in the morning and eat them fresh every day. Yes, btw, they are good for your health and whatever else ails you. Kat, you are pulling my leg again, I know you don't really like blueberries.:D

I had blueberries once. But, a young lady helped me out... ;)

Well actually they were bigger than blueberries, and they weren't really blue, but, heck, never mind...
