anyone notice the announcers seemed to really play up the race yesterday?

they made it seem like loudon is one of the hardest tracks out there

jeff burton kept going on and on and on

seemed like they were tryin to make the race a bigger deal than it was

i understand thats their job but it turned me off quickly

i was really disappointed by the crew yesterday

Jeff Burton and most announcers need to learn that less is more, and to speak only when necessary. Mike Joy seems to be the only NASCAR broadcaster who has a firm grasp on this concept.

i think jeff burton went 5 minutes without 30 seconds of silence yesterday towards the start of the race

If you listen to the TV broadcast through your headset at the racetrack, you'd see why they do this. They're prepped and coached when the microphones are cold, for what to discuss when the mics go hot. Network mouthpieces.

SIDEWAYS! when the car is nowhere near sideways.

I was so turned off by the broadcast I didn't even mute it but deleted the entire race before it was over. Once they started in about cut lines and where Junior would be and more talk about the chase and then back to cut lines I wanted to puke. Jeff Burton and Retart sound like someone has their balls in a vise and they get paid by the word. The idiot play by play dude sounds like a guy a few fries short of a happy meal.

Isn't that what all announcers are paid to do? Doesn't matter if it is a boring game or a blowout they still are expected to gin up some kind of excitement. They aren't going to let them sit there not saying anything.

Yeah, I'm not sure why people wouldn't expect NBC to play up this race, and not just open the broadcast with "Yeah, this race is going to suck."

I agree with you. I thought it was better last year but I may be mistaken.

A collective group of NASCAR fans a tough crowd to please. We're upset if our announcers are excited. We're upset if they're not excited enough. We don't like cautions. We like restarts. We're NASCAR fans. It's an equal opportunity bitch session. Never gets old.

If you are watching a football game that is a blowout or otherwise is not interesting the broadcasters acknowledge it and may start discussing why one of the teams sucks so badly or about younger players and backups that are now in the game.

I find it insulting when some fool in the booth tries to make a routine event sound like it is awesome by yelling or speaking in a high pitched voice. In the eyes of many Nascar is sorely lacking in authenticity so when some asshat in the booth piles on with complete bull**** it makes a good situation bad and a bad situation worse.

Professional broadcasters should not play up or play down an event but should professionally react and report on what is being seen and heard. If Nascar broadcasters feel they have to hype things happening in a race there is a problem with the on track product.

They would have a lot to talk about if they routinely showed racing from 15-20th on back. Not much to say when they show Kyle Busch with a 5 second lead for 3 minutes then go to commercial.

Good lord , there are not any more boring sports to watch than baseball and golf . Try watching them with no sound. Fact is , the announcers are paid to make it sound exciting.

I find that listening to PRN and MRN , they mainly focus on racing , no matter where in the pack it is.

Good point as there are plenty of things to talk about if the directors, producers and broadcasters would open their eyes.

I have never heard an NFL broadcaster try and make something routine like a 1 yard run up the gut or a 3 yard wide receiver screen exciting. If there is something genuinely exciting the reaction will match the action but that is it. I don't know how a broadcaster can legitimately make something mundane seem exciting as a turd is a turd regardless as to how it is described.

GREEN FLAG BACK IN THE AIR!!!!!!!! X 4000!
That is soooooooo annoying from that NBC guy that I have the remote in hand and "Mute" ready with my thumb.
Burton seems like a nice guy be he's beginning to get under my skin.

[thank god for the safer barrier]

they need only 2 guys in the booth,

People only liked it last year because it was "new", myself included. NBC seems to have all the bells and whistles, but they lack the people.

Besides Marty Snider of course, he's always been the man.

I must have been watching some different NFL games then.

I assume you never listened to Pat Summerall broadcast NFL games. He didn't have to scream like a monkey on crack every 30 seconds to make the game enjoyable even if it was a blowout. He let the game speak for itself.

By chance can you give me a pairing of NFL broadcasters that are unprofessional? I have watched the NFL in 6 decades and not seen anything I thought was hyping the game or trying to pretend something was good when it wasn't.

I just thought of something...I think Jim Nantz could be a good NASCAR commentator. He reminds me of an old school Ken Squier.

Nantz would be informative and prepared and deliver things in a measured way. Mike Tirico would be another good one, IMO.

I like Burton but jesus. He's been driving me nuts this year in the booth. Letarte too. I honestly had high expectations for these guys this year but so far, Fox was far superior.
And for fellow members taking the all or nothing approach, why try to shut down discussions? We're just giving our thoughts.
If you say well they're damned if they do or damned if they don't.... that's true to a point but exactly not real life. There's nuance in life and nuance in some people's opinions here.
It's ok if I thought the NBC broadcast was ****. I believe there are some good things about it but also A LOT of room for improvement.
Why is it not ok to say that without being called constant whining fans? Some of the weaknesses in the production are easy to spot and offensive to most everyone. It's ok to discuss this.
I love Nascar but I'll never love a caution clock or some guy screaming at me for no reason three quarters of the race.
