Kenseth...

Was my pick from the start to win it all.

Just creeped into the top 5 and is running very well lately. Possum?

Wouldn't mind that at all Paul.I bet Mark losing the cup to him would soften the blow a bit.;)

Not enough OOMPH this year. But he'll be tough next year. I like him a lot. I think Mark is getting the best Roush has to offer this year. Next year may be Matt's turn.

Absolutely.

A DNF to start the season at Daytona put Matt behind the 8-ball. However solid finishes including 2 wins in the first 7 races of the season put Matt solidly into second place in the points. A spot he held through his second place finish in Charlotte this spring.

Beginning with the next race at Dover though Matt was to post finishes of 30th or higher in 4 of the next 7 races. ontinues inscosistency has given MAtt his series leading number of wins, but has also given him 7 finishes this year of 30th or worse plus the DNF at Daytona.

Matt is currently fifth in points over the last 6 races and 6th overall facing the same points deficit as Jeff Gordon. To make up the 201 points and leap frog over 5 drivers will be a daunting task. It is possible if the team can maintain a strong runing consistency over remaining 6 races, but not likely. IMHO

Look for Matt to get a championship, just probably not this year.

Kenseth is just one of those guys that a lot of people don't care either way about.

Not too many people really like him and not many hate him either. He is just kinda there. Not too exciting I guess.

You can't count anyone out that is in the top 5 possibly top 7.

Kenseth could be the sleeper and steal this championship away. Boy, that would really get Dale. Jr. going. Ever since Kenseth and Jr. moved up at the same time, Kenseth has always been one step ahead of Jr.

Have to agree with you. There is something about him I don't like but I can't put my finger on it. But then there are things I like about him too. He is a real smooth driver. You never see him make any real remarkable saves or anything just because he doesn't get into those situations very often. He is a smart driver. Championships will come, but not 2002.

Very true. Kenseth doesn't seem to have as much pressure as Jr. does...maybe it is cause of the name. I don't know if he can win it, but I do think he will get a top 3.

Mat has handled himself well in being a profesional Winston cup driver.Don't expect anything more,or less of him.I Have a lot of respect for his gentelman ways on,and off the track.I would think more people could find more good than bad to say about him.;)

I like Matt. He's always in contention. Never seems to create situations that get him into trouble. Very smooth moves on track.

Has a cat --- Lars --- that travels with him. So he's cool. LOL

TRL, I remember you picked Mark and I picked Matt, we were both in agreement that it would be a Roush car.

Nothing against Matt (although, I agree with the resuscitated Flyboy that he's dull as dishwater), but how has he ALWAYS been one step ahead of Jr.? Last I checked, Jr. has seven career Cup victories to Matt's five. As for average career points standing, Matt's 12.64 to Jr.'s 13.42, hardly a big difference.

I'm sure you'll all argue that Matt's the superior driver, but the facts speak a different story, IMO.

Matt beat him for ROTY. That was their first test in WC.

He very well could. He also has to be on the short list of favorites going into Charlotte.

Wouldn't a better average career points standing lead people to think that one is the better driver?

How do those facts speak differently?

It's a marginal difference, not enough -- in my opinion -- to declare one as always being a step ahead of the other.

What about the extra two wins Jr. has, or do those not count?

Ok, I'll try it that way.

Why do people consistantly say that Earnhardt Sr is the "greatest driver of all time" when Richard Petty had 200 wins to Sr's 76?

I never said it.

I love them both. :)

You were saying that people shouldn't be allowed to say that Kenseth has been performing better because the facts speak otherwise.

Then the facts you presented us with only showed that Kenseth has, in fact, been performing better.

You can't have your cake and eat it to. Meaning, you can't say that we're all to follow "facts" (which went against your point in the first place) and then bring in an opinion that the difference is so "marginal" that no one should make a judgement either way. We're either discussing it using your facts, or being purely subjective and using that "marginal" difference to choose the other way.

Remember one's favorite does not equal best.

Look at all the "PIck the top ten" threads all the time, 95% of the time the person picks their favorite driver to finish first. If the threads are just, "Pick who you would like to see finish first" it would make more sense.

Despite what you seem to want to believe, I'm not one of those pompom waving fans who thinks Jr. is the greatest driver in the world and can do no wrong.

I never said that people shouldn't be allowed to say stuff. People can say whatever they want to say. People usually do, and I usually choose to ignore most of it.

The facts I presented didn't only show that Kenseth has performed better than Jr. I mentioned his five wins compared to Jr.'s seven, yet you seem to want to disregard that particular fact. Who's being biased now?

Not in the mood to argue with you, so I'll just go now... :)

Now you're just putting words into people's mouths.

That's why I asked you about Petty and Earnhardt, you seem to want to disregard that as well. You say that we're overlooking Jr's two extra wins.

Don't start none, won't be none, as my Dad used to say.

Mind if I jump in here? Good.

What do you mean abooja? You say its your opinion that those stats are to close to make a judgement yet you can make the opposite judgement saying that everyone thinks his two extra wins dont count when no one even said that.

If you reread what I wrote, you will note that I never said that "everyone" thinks anything, but that Paul chose to ignore that particular stat.

I tend to choose my words carefully. Please don't put anything in my mouth that I didn't already want there. :)

Yeah, Im just a dumb hillbilly I dont understand things. Good thing we have smart people like you here to guide us along. Gonna go reread things so that I understand.

Maybe it should be made clear what you do and what you don't want in your mouth.....;)

Paul, is that you? :p

Didn't call you a dumb anything. There you go putting words in my mouth again. Not a very nice how-do-you-do.

Whatever you are, it ain't good.

And that was a joke, Paul. But glad to hear you think I dug some sort of hole. Funny, because I thought we were all here to have a good time...
