ARCA not a racin' deal

the video shows that the crash occured-
15 seconds from the time Eric SPUN, 8 seconds from the time Eric's car came to a REST
Everyone there says the caution lights were on.

It was a terrible accident, but not a racing accident. It was not the same as Sterling and Dale. It was not the same as Kerry and Blaise. It was practice. Eric lost control 15 seconds BEFORE contact. Not fractions of a second after-- if that were the case, then you could call it a RACING incident.

Quote from racers there: It NEVER should have happened.

No........let's not do that, Paul.

But serious consideration should be given to her continuing in racing.

She's suffered more than anyone......just let it go. But, if she wants to continue in racing she should have a very long and detailed accounting for her judgement.

I agree. But I'm not sure what people want. There's no conspiracy here.

She couldn't see.

Yes, I understand letting it go. Just wanted to point out what makes it different than a "racin' deal" as some people have been dismissing it. If it was a male in that car he would be being criticized just as badly. However, I dislike the talk I am hearing since it happened... this is why women shouldn't drive... blah.. blah.. blah... all women drivers are being judged.

Why should serious consideration be given to her continuing in racing? I don't understand.

All reports so far have stated.....along with the ARCA Prez....the Deb was entering turn three when ARCA radioed the crews that a yellow was on the track. By the time this was relayed to Deb she was almost on top of the Eric Martin car.

Poor spotter postion and a slow yellow. It doesn't get any plainer than that, so again I ask......

Why should serious consideration be given to her continuing in racing?

There should be no consideration about her racing career. Let her drive her Busch car next year. The only improvement needed is for spotters to always be on the roof. Just like NASCAR mandated for this weekend, at anytime when your car is on the track you must have a spotter.

22 times a year somebody dies in an auto racing related accident. Speed Kills. Simple as that.

It happens at 180, and it happens at 45. It happens to folks just sitting in the stands for gosh sakes. These folks are out there every weekend putting their lives on the track. Accidents are GOING to happen. People are GOING to get dead.

Unless someone has conclusive proof that a driver was negligent, I suggest they cool it with the pointing fingers deal. IMO the best dern driver in the world could not have avoided hitting Eric Martin given the circumstances so if anybody wants to point fingers, maybe they should point to themselves and ask why they follow the sport in the first place.

This lost me pretty much.

"Quote from racers there: It NEVER should have happened."

I would guess that could be said of any crash. Taken out of context like that I haven't a clue as to what they mean. Nor am I sure where or from whom this info comes.

"racin' deal" - another undefinable term for me. It happened on a race track and race cars and race drivers were involved.

71Fan is right. Deaths are a part of automobile racing. Not anticipated and never welcome, but simply a fact.

So very well said, just ask Patti Petty.

I have to agree with HS. It was not a "racin' deal" it was an accident pure and simple. And an unfortunate one at that. I just hope that Debra doesn't let this accident determine the rest of her future. It would certainly be a shame, she is a talented driver.

:( We are debating if it was a racin deal or not. We should be thankful there was just one death and not two. Deb could have been killed also. I pray she makes a full recouvery and get right back in the car as soon as she can.
