ARCA on DIRT!!!!

Tomorrow afternoon, Springfield! :beerbang:

Well, congratulations to Kligerman once again! I can't believe he pulled it off. First time racing on dirt, although I don't really consider mile long horse tracks with no banking dirt racing. :D

Also the first time I watched basically an entire race on UStream. I'm not terribly impressed. I guess I could use a faster connection speed, I'm on DSL at about 450 kbs.

Also congratulations to Frank Kimmel on breaking the 10,000 lap led barrier (finally). I stepped away for a minute, I didn't really hear why the late race pit stop.

The camera work is horrible. The camera was showing either the empty section of the stands or showing the #77 car the entire race.

Plenty of times I noticed the camera just kind of drifting down, and ending up focusing on the flag stand. I'm guessing this is when the lone camera man had to take a swig of beer or something?

Also the first time I've seen one of these ARCA dirt races, other than a few clips on You Tube. I mean yeah, it's on a dirt surface. But how about some banking, and sliding through the turns? Even the 4 cylinders slide through the turns at the local 1/2 mile bullring. I'd really like to see ARCA race on a track like that.

They won't race on a dirt track smaller than a mile because it "wouldn't be fair" to the drivers who run asphalt their entire career. I'd like to see them race at one of the great dirt tracks in VA, MD or PA.

Yeah, I hear you there. And ultimately, I have to agree. They have sort of a championship weekend here in NY where they race at the State Fairgrounds in Syracuse in October. Same deal, totally flat 1 mile horse oval. Never made it there (I'm 2.5 hours away) but one of these years.

Oh well, ARCA does in fact race on dirt twice a year. Have a beer on me. :beerbang:

Sorry, ARCA's official opinion, not mine. I don't make it up, I just report it.

Anyways, going through my TV guide this morning, I found a new TV channel on my DirecTV. It's called RFD-TV (apparently they can air this but not Versus:rolleyes:) and it's primairly a midwestern station. Anyways, I found this because they air Imus in the Morning. Given the overall low-budget quality of the network, I wonder how much airtime would cost there and if ARCA would look in to it since it's right in their market. It's not a great channel but it would be better than nothing.

Well ARCA claims to be a national series. Maybe they should do a race farther west instead, they don't have any out there.

I wouldn't mind seeing them race in Pikes Peak or maybe Vegas, but anything farther west IDK. NASCAR has problems selling tickets out on the left coast... don't know how ARCA would fair.

I heard the NASCAR Camping World Series West event at Portland did great. I hear the Canadian Tire Series does great out west too.

I will never understand why NASCAR doesn't run, at the least, the Trucks at Portland. They have two races at tracks that have a hard time selling tickets. Southern California has a hard time selling 65,000 tickets for a Cup race but Portland can sell over 40,000 tickets for a West Series race... that should clue NASCAR in to the fact that the northwest wants NASCAR and will appreciate it more than Southern California ever will.

I'd love to see ARCA race at Portland, but that's a hike. Most of the teams are low-budget and it would be very hard for them to be able to make the 3 or 4 day drive out left and back.

I hear the Canadian Tire Series does great out west too.

Yeah, western Canada where they're the premiere stock car series.

They are the premiere stock car series in Canada, but really its about the same level as ARCA and the NASCAR Camping World Series East/West. The payouts for their races are terrible. In the past it was often about $5,000 to win for some of the smaller oval events. This year it has usually been above $8,000 which still isn't great. I don't know if the payouts I saw were US Dollars or Canadian, but i'd assume Canadian which is even worse. Its really not worth it for them to go that far west but they do anyway.

I'd have to agree with these sentiments. NASCAR does terrible in California, and many ARCA teams are too low budget for driving way out west. I'm sure Toledo has been following ARCA for many many years, and could clue us into any attempts at racing out there. Hey, isn't there an ARCA west?

I also never noticed I could rate a thread before. Is that new?

I think ARCA west is just some late models, barely any connection to the real ARCA. I know the ARCA west in Canada is just some late model series that they rebranded with ARCA recently. I think ARCA raced at Texas motor speedway once, I don't think they've went farther than that. I don't actually think ARCA should go out far west, its just that Andy mentioned some places that he thinks ARCA should race(all nearby him), he thinks ARCA should race in states they don't already, they don't race out west at all. I think the ARCA schedule is fine. I think the most likely dirt track to have an ARCA race would be the Indiana State Fair, I believe it is 1 mile just like DuQuoin and Springfield. I think USAC races on Saturday there just like Springfield and DuQuoin.

It looks like there's an ARCA West Mac's series and a Circle K series? And one of them seems to pretty much have their own website? (as opposed to arcawest.com) Somewhat confusing, so I'm sure it's just a very loose affiliation in any case. Ok then, bring on the Indiana State fair. Did I mention I like banking?

The series in Canada with its own website used to be called something else and then rebranded to ARCA a couple of years ago. I'm guessing that the IN State fair is also a 1 mile horse track like DuQuoin and Springfield, with the same banking.

ARCA already did race at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in the mid '90s. It was on Wed. Night of Brickyard week. The track both times I was there was horrible.
