When the season first started, I thought there was no way in hell there would be 16 different winners in the first 26 races. But now I'm starting to reconsider. Yesterday, Denny Hamlin became the season's 8th different winner. Then I looked at some of the guys who haven't won yet. Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, and Jeff Gordon are probably locks to get at least one win in the next 16 races. Then there are the guys like Greg Biffle, Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer, and Kasey Kahne who despite not having monster seasons could still win on any given week. I could also see someone like McMurray, Larson, Vickers, or Newman stealing a win somewhere. Then you have to consider the possibility of Ambrose winning one of the road courses.

16 in 26 may still not happen, but it turns out it's a lot more possible than I originally thought.

I think it will be about 12-14 but 16 is entirely possible at this rate. I think there will start to be some more repeat winners coming up.

I could also see the dinger stealing a win at a road course

Or Ambrose, especially at Watkins Glen. I think it's entirely possible given the big names who have yet to win this season

Whoops didn't see him mentioned in the initial post :)

I would like to see Larson sneak a win in there as well.

Seems to be a good kid, I don't know much about him, but I like his driving.

Bowyer at Sonoma, that's my prediction for Bowyer win.

My guess is in the 14 range too but certainly wouldn't be surprised if it gets to 16. To have 8 unique winners and no wins yet for Kenseth, Johnson, or Smoke at this point is surprising. I think we'll see the 2, 4, 11, 18, and 22 win some more as well, those guys are always contenders. The 24 has been knocking on the door all year as well so I think he'll get a win or in by points if there's room. Hopefully the 88 can get another one before the chase :) Have really been enjoying the year so far.

Welcome to the forums, Wade :) I tend to agree with what you've said - hopefully Kurt Busch can get a few more wins in as well!

I could see 14 but that's all for this yr. I think in the future there will an increasing chance of getting to or past 16 as this system is figured out and strategies change. It is certainly possible that 16 is surpassed this yr. - but with how strong the current winners have been so far I just don't see them not racking up more wins.

I think we'll wind up in the 13-15 range. Some of the past winners like Harvick, Kyle Busch, and the Penske duo will start racking up multiple wins during the summer stretch.

There will most definitely be 16 different winners this year IMO.

Mainly because JG doesn't have a win and keeps finding ways to lose so that seems just like the thing that would happen.

add win by jj....jeff....matt....tony = 12
ambrose 1 rc =13

that leaves 11 races .....ta get only 3 more .
gonna be lotsa crap shoot strategy for those 3..................
oughta be fun watchin.

We will get close but not close enough to fill every spot.

I can bet you that when Jimmie wins he will pop 2 or 3 consecutive wins. Or win, not win, win, win. Streaky drivers like him tend to go off like that.

Tony is the same way but since he's hurting right now I'm not sure he'll get as many wins as he usually does. But he will get one at the very least.

I'm looking for Gordon to get his first win at Sonoma.

I can picture the hype surrounding Richmond already... when there's only 15 winners and they wont stop talking about "win and ur in the chase!"... then someone with 2-3 wins will go get their 4th one and Brian France will throw a fit when a winless driver makes the chase and put Danica in as the 17th driver out of spite.

Kyle Busch will sweep the road courses this year, sorry charlie

Sonoma is one of Kyle's worst tracks. I think Watkins Glen is much more suitable for him since it caters more towards aggressive drivers.

He has won at the Glenn, he can win Sonoma too. I have faith

Gordon's not what he used to be on the road courses ever since the field got better. Used to be 3 guys who could win on the road courses now there's a bunch. He'll get a win though. I could see bowyer or vickers winning Sonoma and dinger at the glen

Gordon's not what he used to be on the road courses ever since the field got better.

That fact is irrelevant.

He's still one of the best. He's always top 5 easily everytime they go to Sonoma.

He should probably have more wins at that place since 2006, which was his last win there. Stupid stuff has kept him from winning more at that place.

Sort of like Martinsville. How many times could he had won there in the past several years? Lots more than just once since 2005.

I'm curious to see how he does at the glen. He blows there now. That has alot to do with not having enough speed in the cars. This year he seems to be a fast beast everywhere so I'm hopeful this is the year that he sweeps the courses.

That would be so cool . Folks who profess to love the new system would be screamin mad at Nascar for 'win and you're in' . :)

IF danica can win a race.......she'll be in ......just like any other lucky wild card underdog driver.
that's part of tha allure of new chase format : dreams ! maybe ? what if ? ...........
....danica win would be a super boost ta new chase system ....... not detriment.

Not recently that I know of but he is the best there is on the road courses IMO
