I don't recall ever being called a putz. I've been called many, many things over the years, but I don't recall ever being called one of those.

The term was referenced in another thread and I thought I had a pretty good idea of what it meant. But, a few comments over there made me look it up. I knew it wasn't exactly a term of endearment, but I had no idea it meant what it means. That's pretty harsh.

I have been called a shmuck before, and by comparison at least it is better than being a putz. But not much.

So I guess I got that going for me

This is the context that it was used for.

putz (pts)
n.
1. Slang A fool; an idiot.

And I had called myself that in the post.

I also now feel even worse for the Diamondbacks pitcher who's name is J.J. Putz. That's just wrong.

A Moravian Putz is a decorated model or diorama depicting the Biblical events surrounding the Nativity, the birth of Jesus. (Putz comes from the German root putzen meaning to clean or decorate.) For this public Putz display, church members annually collect moss and other natural materials from the Pocono Mountains to form the scenery.

The Moravian community here in Winston Salem have a Christmas Putz that is absolutely gorgeous and they add to it each year. It is shown only during the annual Candle Tea exhibition, a couple of weeks before Christmas.
