They are headed to Mexico city this weekend in the busch series, and nascar wants to race in canada also in the near future. Id like to hear your opinon on racing in other countries.

thanks

No. But looks like it would cost more than it is worth. Getting a car and dackup over seas would be rough. Not like Mexico and Canada where you can drive your hauler there. :D

That was my point, Gollum. Once the teams sees how much it cost to go there, they drop this idea like a hot potato. Plus, I can't see the majority of Mexicans spending their cash to go to a race.....

its in mexico city, im sure they'll find pplenty of people to go to it, mexico city is either one of the biggest or the biggest city in the world

I think you'll find this is wrong. Mexico City puts on and packs some good racing. There's going to be 10 people from Mexico trying to make the race, some very good racers with a large following. There's companies in Mexico that will invest big capital for racing and sponsorship that won't spend it on the American races. This could end up being one of the higher paying Busch races in the near future.

As to the original question; I wouldn't want NASCAR to get like CART in the past and flying to different countries in Europe, but Canada and Mexico are both part of Americas boardering the US and I think it is great. There's millions of fans already in both countries.

I see no problem in Canada and Mexico. I agree there won't be too many teams shipping cars to other countries due to costs and time.

If it was such a good idea, why didn't they do it in the Cup series rather than in the Busch series.

The only thing that this Mexico City race will do will hurt the car owners in the Busch series, expecially the ones that are just trying to get by and make the races.

What is the point in having the Busch teams go from California to Mexico City and then back to Vegas when most of the shops are in N.C. The teams had to either buy a second hauler this year or they had to arrange to transport cars, supplies, different rear end ratios, and a slew of other equipment to meet maybe somewhere in Texas and do a swap. Then they will have to do another swap or transport more cars and equipment to Vegas.

Then the added cost of building a road course car and a backup for this one race. Where is Nascar trying to save the teams money as they have said so many times in the past.

The purse is big. But the Cup guys are off next weekend so their better funded teams will drag out their road course equipment to Mexico and will probably take most of the top 10 money spots.

It's all about Nascar and how much money they can make. If they keep treating the teams owners this way, they will kill this goose eventually.

Mexico City is a terrible idea! Most reading this have never been there...I have. Many times in fact. The real Bush fans that make the trip are in for a few surprises.
As far as why down there... MONEY! Everyone involved in NASCAR should be suspect. UNDER the table money flows like water down there. I Betcha there are a few pockets that have a wonderful green lining now.
Why another country? Are there not enough tracks here? I hope we get to hear the horror stories that will be produced by this venture..
Caution to anyone going... don't drive! FLY, and take cabs.

I've been to Mexico a lot too, and I found the people friendly, and very kind. They love to have the American $$$ coming to their country, and I don't blame them. We have had some of our most wonderful vacations down there.
Road courses, we have them here too. So what's up with that???
If they make it, it's all good. Mexico is heavy into the Formula racing that they only get once a year. They will probably really support this Stock car racing too. More especially since there very well may be several of their countrymen in it.
I say, GO.............and have a blast!!!!!! Hope it works out!!!!!

I'm absolutely for racing in other countries. I just don't think it should be NASCAR. If they want to put cars on a track in Mexico, Germany or where ever then by all means do it. Just don't take my sport and send it to one of their tracks...

Dlady I agree that tourista spots in Mexico can be great places... But Mexico City? YUK! What a place to spend a few days at a race track. To me Mexico City is not a place to spend much time..
Those tourista places on both coasts are geared to helping the touristas have a good stay. I have not seen this to be fact in the City.
Betsy ;)

The sensible thing to do is give it a try and if the place is so bad that it doesn't work out - don't go back a second time.

I say go for it.. except for the fact that if they continue with going to other countries eventually they well only have a few races in the US.. then what will happen? I say go to Mexico and Canada with Busch or Trucks, maybe 1 Nextel but i don't want to see the US loose races to foreign countries

RACE wherever. Why should it matter where? Sure, Nascar is firmly rooted in the USA, in Dixie, but...our favorite sport has gained in popularity worldwide and when Nascar was trying to grow in the world's eyes, drivers went to other countries to gain exposure.

Let 'em race where they want to race. I can't see this developing into any points bearing thing........more in the exhibition mode. What's wrong with introducing our style of stockcar racing to other countries and cultures? If it catches on there, all the better!! There could be a division of international stockcar racing either as NASCAR or some clone! Big bucks would be required, sure............but what a challenge to be a true World Stockcar Champion that would be!! :beerbang:

I'm for racing in places like Mexico and Canada. Why deprive the fans that are on the same continet of seeing a race? If the racing and pay is good, then why not. I'm againist racing outside this continet because of the cost and loss of U.S. fan base (plus sponsorship) because of the time difference.
