If your answer is no then I've got to wonder why you bothered to click on the thread. I used to be into the ratings of NASCAR. Now, not so much, but I did find this new site for those that are. For any of you that are, check out this link. Someone asked recently how the Chase era ratings compared to the pre-Chase era. It's in there and it's very detailed. It's a look at NASCAR ratings over about a seventeen year period. So far there is a very detailed section on night racing & also a Chase debate.

In my humble opinion, I disagree with his thesis on night racing == lower ratings. Correlation does not equal causation.

I'm not big on ratings in the traditional sense. The Nielsen system is archaic and therefore doesn't take in the multiple ways people watch TV now.. Really it's just an estimate. Plus, ratings in most everything have declined in the last few decades because of all the different options. Finally, Nascar has trouble with growth because the perception is it's just guys going around in a circle. Europeans don't consider NASCAR real racing and the rest of the detractors don't even consider it a sport. Not to mention that the diversification of the sport is moving a snails pace at best.

They need to stop all the BS before the race. They have a hour prerace show, then bs for another half hour before the green flag.

Doesnt make a sheet to me, clicked because I can. Just put on good races, have some occasional California drama like this year without the injuries, and everything will be ok. Drivers need to show passsion that doesn't need hype to be evident. You have to inspire kids, and allow racing to be infectious, as being in the blood.
Petty, Allison, Pearson they was not hyped up productions, but they inspired.

But is tougher today, more things competing for attention.

Yada, yada just my two cents

It looks like the Chase ratings went in the dump when Disney moved the races to cable. One more reason I doubt NASCAR will reject a full package bid from NBC. Is SportsCenter exposure really worth all this for NASCAR? And remember, that's the only thing ESPN wants - the Chase.

Also, I wonder why the ratings were so much higher in 2002 than in 2001 for the final 10 races? Did one of those races being on "Black Friday" (because of the 9/11 attacks) and another one of those races being moved, at the last second, to cable because NBC broke out to cover a war have that much impact on the overall ratings in 10 races? Curious.

Well you also not watch the pre-race, I don't think anyone forces you to do it, Jayski has about what time the green flag will fly each race, so check that and tune in a few mins before to give yourself breathing room to make sure you don't miss it.

By the time the green flag waves in a Chase race, the football games are deep in to the second quarter or in the second half.

If I recall, the championsip battle in '02 was much tighter than it was in '01. In 2002 I believe it went down to the last race between Tony Stewart and Mark Martin for the title. In late 2001, Gordon had things pretty much wrapped up.
