Argentine rally car driver Guido Falaschi has died in hospital from injuries sustained in a crash during the Turismo Carretera race at the Juan Manuel Fangio track in Balcarce, Argentina.

Video of the incident shows cars careering into the barriers and crashing into each other in the final lap of the race.

Emergency workers ran over to the scene and rushed 22-year-old Falaschi to hospital.

According to reports from hospital officials, doctors tried to revive Falaschi for more than 40 minutes.

Fellow race car driver, Guillermo Ortelli, described the crash as a "disaster".

"When Guido hit the wall and came to the inside, I managed to avoid him. When I tried to recover so I could go straight, everything was dirty, filled with dirt. The car kind of went off to the side and Guido's car comes back at me and that was when I was hit and after that, well, I felt hits from every side, nobody was braking, nobody was braking. I was left sitting in the car and all of them passed me at full (speed)," he said.

This is the third fatal incident in motorsport in the last month, after the deaths in October of IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon and MotoGP racer Marco Simoncelli.
