Aric Amirola

I keep waiting for him to finally break out. I am a long time Richard Petty and Petty Racing fan and Amirola seems like he might be the guy to bring #43 back from obscurity.

Sees though that he has mastered the art of driving "safe" without taking many chances. This strategy will allow you to back in to the chase standings and be a consistent top 10-12 guy but doesn't seem to allow you to compete in the top 3 or 4 with the race on the line.

Do you all see Aric taking the next step? When will he start taking chances?

I like Almirola and I think he has a very bright future, but he seems to be in Martin Truex, Jr. mode right now: a guy who always runs in the top half of the field, will often give you a top 10 and sometimes even a top 5, but hasn't really been able to seal the deal. It would be nice to see the 43 back in VL, if I recall correctly John Andretti's '99 Martinsville win was the last time it was there.

I like Aric too. It's only a matter of time till he pulls off a win and once he does perhaps it will bring out a different, hungry racer.

I picked him for the first time for my fantasy team...I thought he would stay out of trouble and finish well...not. He is driving what I call a slow Ford and I think that fits his driving style, kind of like a Manard, they don't take chances, and they don't get all out of the car. that is good for Petty racing, the don't have four backups waiting in the wings. With the exception of this race, he is making Petty racing valuable income. Petty himself admits that they don't have fast cars for some races. so it is what it is. They have to crawl before they can walk and Aric is doing a great job for what he has to work with. He has won Petty over 1.7 million this year sitting in 9th compared to car mangler Ambrose 1.5 in 23rd

Hi Nate , welcome to the forum . Aric is doing a great job and making a real name for himself . I wonder though , if his next step might be to move up to one of the contending (big) teams . Right now , Petty ,Stewart Haas and Earnhardt/Ganassi are knocking on the door , but they aren't at the top level. IMO:D

I was surprised and happy to see him in the ton 10. I think good results increase confidence and that will put him in position to win. I don't think he needs to be taking chances.

Petty's equipment is still not close enough to championship material. He's doing pretty well for what he's got, though. Considering his age, if he keeps running pretty consistently a move to a better team may be in his future.

An Australian and a Cuban racing for Richard Petty? What's next, a Japanese guy racing for AJ Foyt? What is the world coming too?

Haha I thought the same thing but you gotta admit Richard found some good talent. Still...something never sits right with me when I see a non-NC native behind the wheel of the 43 car. :)

For those who gave more informative replies....thanks. He is obviously a very talented driver who might have just what it takes to help with the infusion of money that Petty needs to afford the equipment to compete with the big boys.

Funny thing is I answered his question and still get slammed....Gotta love it

It's just sarcasm not transferring over to text my man, I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like y'all just got some wires crossed.

Don't kid yourself, Petty gets the money he needs...He has never been a good team owner

Man, after Kansas last year I knew had some some serious talent. How much I would love to see him in a good ride...
