On Windtunnel tonight Arie Luyendyk says Danica Patrick excites him the most of today's Indy drivers. He's also impressed with Simona de Silvestro.

I heard that also. My first reaction was "Why?"

You have to pay attention to how he said it. Before he continued after the Danica comment, he started with "in all seriousness though..." so I think he was referring to Danica like so many normal men do....

I didn't interpret it that way. I got that she has brought a hole new audience to viewing IndyCar, not only some guys that think she's hot (unlike spike) but more women as well are watching and have some interest in IndyCar now.

I guess if Danica moves to NA$CAR then Simona de Silvestro will be IndyCar's new darling, well if F1 doesn't grab her up.

I caught that disclaimer and I agree that he probably threw out those two names "tongue-in-cheek." However, I don't see either as particularly special despite their plumbing. When you consider the equipment Danica has had I feel her performance is decidedly lackluster. Yeah, she's a stone-solid little home-wrecker and I'd buy her drinks all night long but as a driver, she's no better than average in her league.

Silvestri... Last season she ran all year and managed only two top tens (9th and a 10th) and never contended for a win that I can remember. I agree her recent run at St. Pete was impressive but then Derick Cope also ran great in a couple of races but the rest of the time??? Not so much. IF she follows her last run with a couple more top 5's THEN I'll be a believer.

Of course, we're talking about IRL things so I guess both girls have served their purpose. Drivers...? Maybe, but good PR? Absolutely!
