Article on JJ

That's a good article on Johnson. Honestly, I can see him becoming one of the best drivers of NASCAR, right alongside Earnhardt Sr, Richard Petty and the likes of Pearson and Fireball.

Can you give me a legit reason why you dont like Gordon..like at all.

Help me understand you.

Oh and yeah, this is nothing new in the sport.

It has been the case ever since it started. There has always been an absolute dominant driver for a time, then a new one comes along and dethrones him. Someone will come along and do the same to Jimmie, I'm sure.

No one stays ontop here for long. Fact.

Probably Austin Dillon. I would absolutely love that. :D

It's not that I don't like Gordon, I do. I just don't think he should be in The Chase for 2013. I mean it sucks that MWR originally ruined his chances of a WC Chase Spot in Richmond, but as my dad used to say, It is what it is. You just roll with the punches and try again next year. My ire has more to do with how NASCAR orchestrated a 13th Chase Spot for Gordon instead of just leaving it alone and letting things play out.

This dead horse has already been beaten to a pulp so to paraphrase you, it is what it is so we roll with the punches leave it alone and let things play out.

I would rather watch Kyle Busch win 1 NW race than watch JJ win the cup. The guy is good but he bores the HELL outa me.

I bet it'll be Joey Logano.

I've always had a huge amount of respect for Jimmie and what he's accomplished. Winning 5 straight championships is a monumental feat, one for which I don't think he gets near the credit he deserves. Sure, I'm rooting for Matt or Kyle to win the championship, but I'll be far from heartbroken if Jimmie gets title #6 this year.

Good article with many good points but JJ will not get 11 or 12 titles. I think he definitely gets 6, maybe 7. But the odds decrease greatly after that, age and timing is an unstoppable issue.

I dunno, can see him get at least 8 titles, thus becoming the only driver to ever win 8 championships.

Jimmie is 38, and Earnhardt won 4 championships after his 38th birthday, so you never know.

There's always a difference. Petty won his 7 championships & 200 victories at a time when it was bring your own and there were a lot more races. Earnhardt (and Gordon) dominated in the pre chase era with NASCAR modernizing and becoming more competitive. Johnson won his championships in the chase era. Another driver will come along in an era when the points system changes & dominate that. History can't be wrong.

Gordon is only 41 (I think). People give him crap all the time about being too old to race.

42 actually (DOB 8/4/71). Gordon still has a few good years left in him.

I think JJ has already earned his place as one of the top 5 greatest drivers of all time. He drives the car on the edge better than anyone else, and just because he doesn't intentionally wreck guys or throw temper tantrums that doesn't mean he's boring IMO.

I think what's most impressive to me is that one could argue this is the most competitive era of NASCAR ever. He's been able to remain dominant year after year in an era where there is so much parity in the garage and scrutiny on the winners of each race. The difference between 1st and 20th has never been so small, yet he still keeps on winning. Go back and look at what Pertty was doing for some of those 200 wins, he'd make "Cheating Chad" and JJ look like a couple of saints.

Yes Jimmie's great. Chad's the man. Respect sent in that general direction. Kumbaya and all of that stuff. All of that being said I never want to see them win the Championship again. I'm not a fan of his and don't find any pleasure in seeing him win his 6th. I liken it to watching National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Sure, it was fun the first time I watched it but the last four times it kinda sucked. I don't really need to see it again. ;)

Only one? o_O
:XXROFL: Well yeah.. I may have made a lot but they're all about different things.. Hottest Cup Driver, Congrats Joey, Best Penske Driver, Don't be surprised etc... all different topics :p It just seems like there's a lot because they last for weeks. When something relates to one of the topics I post it in it in the right thread.

EDIT: Actually Im sure Ive said that in more than one.. disregard

Took the author a long time to get to the point. I am glad I have been around to watch Johnson break records that will probably never be broken for years to come. I have no idea if JJ will win anymore championships, but personally I think he will. He has shut out the rest of the competition to single wins for the last ten years, and is in a category all by himself. Right now he is #1 again with 4 to go..hail yes, he raced the Hendrick Chevy to the top spot, somebody had to do it, the rest of the Hendricks are racing for second at best this year...Gofer 6

I didn't care to read it all but from what I read it made no sense, it starts off pretty much saying Johnson is hated cause he wins, but then goes on to metion Dale who has more Championships then Johnson(also more wins) but says he was the most popular driver, so how can that be?

My problem with Johnson isn't he always wins it's just not someone I'm a fan of honestly, hell I wish Jr could have seasons like Johnson does and I'd still be a fan of his.

It was a good article. I didn't like Earnhardt when he was challenging Petty's records but he earned my respect over time. As a fan of Gordon I didn't like seeing Johnson challenging his records but he has earned my respect as well. I'm slowly becoming a fan because of his racing performance. As the article pointed out, Johnson is winning at a time with the greatest parity in the sport and that says a lot.

The guy stays so healthy, he may be super competitive well into his 40's. The only question I have is who takes Chads place when he steps off the box? He has said he can't imagine doing it past 2015, but people change their minds.

I'm sure Team Owner Hendrick can persuade him to stay on past 2015. You know...$$$$$$$

Not sure what ur asking here? Or do you think it says Johnson is the most popular? It says Dale was the most popular in the '90's until he was dethroned by Gordon.

I've said this before, but I like Jimmie (and Chad). The only reason I don't typically get too excited watching Jimmie win is because it's one of the three guarantees in life, right behind death and taxes.

That said, I would love to see him win 8 championships, just to watch his haters squirm.

This article hit the nail on the head. Jimmie will get 7, if not 8. Just you wait and see.

I was asking how he can say people dont like Johnson for winning but then use the fact that Earnhardt was the most pop when he was winning it makes no sense.

Dale Sr was only MPD once if I remember correctly, Elliot backed out so Dale would win
