With NASCAR saying goodbye to the Elite series after this season, many of the teams have already begun to head to ASA's Late Model series. What is interesting is the schedule is already out for this year and there are two races scheduled at a very interesting place. Check out the site's schedule...http://www.asalatemodelssouth.com/index.php?page_id=42 and look at the races scheduled for June 30th and October 21st. Of course, this is all tentative as the schedule says. Tentative, I guess.

June 30th
North Wilkesboro Speedway - North Wilkesboro, NC

October 21st
North Wilkesboro Speedway-North Wilkesboro, NC
(Southern Division Season Championships)

I would dare say it certainly is tentative!

I thought the ASA series was no longer? Last year the sponsor pulled out and there was there no series. I would not count on there being ASA any time soon.

Looks like orange county speedway has just about all the races, used to be a national series i thought?

Yeah, Mopardh9 I remember them having trouble and the news got hot and heavy when they were at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Since then, I believe that they have rearranged everything and are now a bunch of smaller series backed by one larger group (ASA). Like you, all I could remember was the trouble they were having but one of our local tracks stuck with the ASA logo and raced all year last year. I went back and looked up anything that was about the trouble and all I could find was the Lowe's trouble and then at the end of 2004, there was an announcement that another series was teaming up with ASA. Our local track that is teamed with ASA is touting an ASA Mod Tour, but they're not saying anything more about it. This track has been at odd with Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston Salem (one of the first NASCAR tracks around) and butted heads with them last year, trying to get BGS mods to come to their track, a half mile oval. This track also used to field SMART (Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams) races, but since NASCAR more or less took over that series, it shut out the ASA track from the racing. Anyway, the track has switched racing nights probably in an effort to make amends with NASCAR so they can possibly get those races back again. But just in case they don't, they have scheduled what they are calling the ASA Mod Tour races about once a month on their track. I am wondering if it might be a series that they have sanctioned on their own. However, as of yet, no one that isn't affiliated with the track knows much about the new series.

I would imagine that it's in at least good enough shape that Jack Roush could use it to test youngsters in his trucks. Other than that, I don't know.
