ATLANTA. Georgia (CNN) -- Three people were fatally shot Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide in a church in southeast Atlanta, police said.
"We have three bodies inside this church that are deceased, a male and two females," Lt. R.C. Robinson told reporters outside Turner Monumental AME Church in the Kirkwood section of the city.
Among the dead was the Rev. Dr. J.C. Reynolds, he said.
"We're pretty confident it may have been a murder-suicide, but we'll confirm that once the medical examiner finishes."
The shootings occurred between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. in the sanctuary, a time when no services or Sunday school classes were being held, he said.
Robinson said no one witnessed the shootings. "We're going to have to piece it together from the crime scene."
A revolver was recovered from the scene of the shootings, he said.
"It's unfortunate that it happens anywhere, but it's very unfortunate that it happens on a Sunday morning inside a church."
