Atlanta loses spring date

Hopefully they'll give it to Pocono, or California.:sarcasm:

Too bad. I'd rather watch 5 races a year in Atlanta than 2 at the above mentioned venues. Maybe thats where Kentuckys date will come from.

Looking at the crowd from the last few Atlanta races, it's not suprising.

no more likely kansas

No, I'd say the Atlanta date will go to Kentucky. I have heard the schedule will be very different for 2011, some major shuffling is to take place.

It's too bad because Atlanta has the best of the 1.5-mile tracks on the schedule. Fans have not supported it. Even when most races were sellouts, Atlanta has struggled with ticket sales. Atlanta is the worst sports town in America.

I stopped going to races and recently stopped watching them because im not interested in it anymore, not because of what other people have said about it.

opps your right forgot who owned what SMI owns atlanta

Stupid move. Of all the tracks with 2 races they pick this one, i don't get it.

Race hub is reporting first chase race to Chicago and next to New Hampshire.

NHMS is safe for next year. Alot of us were sweating bulletts up here. And we gained an Indy race next year!! WOO-HOO!!!

I don't know the difference between the two, and could care less, but does Fontana need 2 races?

Fontana's about to lose a race, and Fontana is ISC owned.

SMI tracks tend to do pretty well (likely because they're a lot more fan friendly than ISC tracks).

It has 2 identical races like 7 weeks apart, and both are generally awful. Give one of Pocono's dates to a track that might actually be able to put on a good race like Iowa.
Spike, I understand, but I attend local racing each and every week and it's on the same track, most generally the same number of laps, and of course, the same hot shot drivers. Bowman Gray Stadium does not have a problem with attendance even if it's the same thing every week. You either like the racing at that track or you don't.

The racing at Pocono sucks too.

Sorry but I wouldn't cry if Loudon lost a race. Loudon is THE reason North Wilkesboro is gone.

Neither would I, even as someone who grew up very close to the track (Bryar Motorsports Park 1960-1989). I've seen some good races there, but never developed any special attachment to it. The businesses in the area don't want to loose one of the races obviously, but they will survive. The Indy cars are coming back next year, and they still have one cup race, a truck race, the modifieds, and the motorcycles. All of those are good draws.

I'm a huge fan of North Wilkesboro, and it just wasn't fair what happened to the track and the county itself. Loudon has two dates because Smith and Bahre broke promises to the Staley family, so this would almost be poetic justice. Ironic thing is though, it's still the same guy making it all happen.

Honestly, I'm not to up in arms about Atlanta either. The place lost most of it's identity after Bruton (who else?) remodeled the place after all the other cookie cutters on the circuit.

I'm glad they lost the spring race and not the later one.

It seems like that last few years, the spring weather in Atlanta has been awful. Rain, or snow or cold................ always something that I believe has also caused a fan drop-off for this race.

Atlanta has had an attendance issue for years. They finally did something about it.

Unfortunately for you, not many people agree with this sentiment.

Ive been watching nascar since the mid 80's, ive always hated Pocono. Its one of the most boring races of the year. (along with Michigan)

As if there aren't a glut of tracks within a 3-6 hour drive of the closed North Wilkesboro facility. 3-6 hours of driving in the Northeast brings you to Dover,Watkins Glen(yawn),or (yawn)Pocono.Care to embellish?
