Atlanta Night Race

# Atlanta looking at a night race: Atlanta Motor Speedway president Ed Clark said he plans to meet today with George Pyne, NASCAR's chief operating officer. On the agenda is a conversation about how AMS might be affected by an upcoming realignment of the Winston Cup schedule. Clark said he does not anticipate the track losing one of its two race dates, as has been rumored, but he would like to secure a more favorable date than the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 now has. "They've opened the door that they're going to change the schedule some, and we at least want to get our two cents worth in that we'd like to look at moving this race later in the season." Clark said he'd like to host a 500-miler under the lights in the summertime. "Every time I go somewhere in this area I get asked when we're going to run a night race," Clark said.(Atlanta Journal-Constitution)(3-9-2003)

Ya gotta find a sumer date that is usable though. Figure that if Atlanta holds two dates, and the one they want to move is this one, then the new date needs to in the first half of the season or near it. You are not gonna move places like NHIS, Pocono, Michigan, Dover, Indianapolis, etc to this date,. That would be outright stupid.

The most likely shuffle would probably be Sears Point. March is not the best weather out there, but might work out. The temps for March usually average highs in the upper 50's so that's workable. Problem is march is kinda the last month of the rainy season. Countering that is the claim NASCAR will (and has) run a road course in wet weather. Might present an annual look at something we rarely get to see.

cool but dangouros(sp) I would like to see it but the drivers aint that use to it and might end up going in to the turns a little quicker and cause a wreck and if someone ran off in to the sand traps, i mean mud traps that would be a big mess
