Atlanta Sweetens HOF Bid
It's a three-car race for the NASCAR hall of fame, and it looks like Atlanta is taking a pit stop to better its bid.Georgia lawmakers introduced a bill this week that would exempt the hall of fame from taxes on construction and materials -- a $6.5 million incentive. Now Atlanta’s $92 million bid has more than $32 million worth of government money and incentives. The remainder would be financed through loans and the private sector.

Glenn Richardson, the House speaker in Georgia, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the hall of fame “would be a tremendous benefit to the state, and I hope we beat Charlotte.”

Atlanta, Charlotte and Daytona Beach, Fla., are competing for the NASCAR facility. In December, Florida legislators approved a special license plate that could raise as much as $30 million for Daytona Beach’s $110 million proposal. -- Charlotte’s $137 million bid would be secured through an increase in the hotel/motel tax.(news14charlotte.com)
