Not looking good @ all for Sunday night's race. It doesn't look good for the following days either. Just two races to go before the Chase. They have to get this race in before Richmond, right? This is already short week with two races being held over six days. What day/night do you think we'll see this race run?

Looking pretty good to me. 20% chance of rain.

I guess it depends on where you look. I was just looking @ the National Weather Service forecast for Sunday night and saw this.....

Sunday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 8pm. Cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 60%

Labor Day: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Cloudy, with a high near 81. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Monday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Tuesday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84.

Tuesday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72.

Wednesday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 86.

Wednesday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 69.

Thursday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 85

I'd rather go with your forecast.

Wow, good thing I looked at this thread. I figured that since it was a night race it would be on Saturday night :D

Local Weather These PPL Are Always Pretty Close

From your link.....

Sunday Night: showers and thunderstorms likely. Lows in the upper 60s. Chance of rain 60 percent.

Pretty much the same that I had found @ the NWS.

I just wonder what their contingency plan is? It looks like rain starting Sunday late afternoon/evening that will last for days. This could be interesting to see this play out.

Hell who knows with Nascar they may run it the week AFTER Homestead

So what you're saying is that we may not know who all is actually in the Chase until the season is over? Cool, so my driver, Dale Jr. still has a chance win it all then? ;)

They could just make Chicagoland the last race before the chase I guess if they had to do that. But I don't know this could play out in a weird way if they don't get to race it. Think of that thought if they make Chicagoland the last race before the chase instead of the first in it and move Atlanta to after Homestead then well Atlanta gets to be the last race again :beerbang: I'd be all for that.

But no I'm sure they will figure out something. Any off weekends during the chase? If so they'd stick it there I don't feel like looking so someone tell me.

I'd bet your scenario would piss of those Richmond fans heading out this week for that race to see who makes the Chase.

Nope, no off weekends.

Yeah you're probably right about that but if its gotta be done then it's gotta be done I mean someone would have to get pissed off or just have an 11 race Chase and Atlanta still the last race. Who am I kidding :( we won't ever get the last race of the season here again

You'd get my vote for that last race again. I can easily make that track for a camping weekend. Homestead, not so much.

i really don't understand why it was not a Sat night race to start with, not that the weather couldn't come on SAT

Yeah that's the one thing I don't get either here. Most of the time when the races happen at night everything gets moved back one day. But with this its like all of them are on there right day just at night. Anyone know the deal with this?

That's what I was in the way of thinking since people be off Monday it's no use in having it Saturday Night just go ahead run that thing Sunday night right?

Without having an open weekend between the 26th race and the Chase it sure makes sense to run those night races on Saturday just in case. It would be nice to have that buffer built into the schedule. There's too much on the line, timing wise, for there to be an issue with weather. Doesn't this tropical storm weather issues always take place during this time of the year?

There are no off weeks left, so my guess is they'd run it Monday or Tuesday if the rain is gone.

With the weather system moving up from the gulf thru Louisiana the weather people are hit and miss with that 60% prediction. Besides in the southeast 60% dont mean jack.
Atlanta has lights the next day is a holiday we may very well may end up with a enduro race....race a few laps dry the track....race a few laps dry the track......race a few laps dry the track....race a few laps dry the track...........till sometime Late Monday night ;)

I've been to a race with 100% chance of rain and never got a drop. I've been with no chance of rain and got rained out. My point being is you really can't trust the weather man, just have to wait and see.

BTW, college football games will be on the ESPN networks and ABC Saturday night. No where for the race to air.

Rain Day

NASCAR rain date is "Next Clear Day"
Been that way for a long time.

Unless they decide to change it.

I voted "Sunday as planned" because I am a member of optimist international.

Does that help?

Are those the same guys who believe that the economy will be fixed by next week? ;)

NASCAR VP comp Robin Pemberton tells @ClaireBLang @SiriusXMNASCAR Pre Race Show "looks like we have a window between 7-10pm"

I guess they are hoping to run half a race and be done with it. This should make the wildcard an even bigger adventure. I'm all for it, but some team will get burned by the wrong call. Denny? Tony? JR? The suspense is killing me. ;)

There is a window, and the rain is moving almost straight north. There is a little finger of rain that is probably about an hour away from the track. If the disappears, I think they can get half the race in. But if that finger of rain either grows and stays the way it is, it will soak the track again and then it's another two hours to dry it. I don't think that after that, they can't get in even half the race. I know they will race well after midnight to get it in, I've been there, done that. Back in 98, we went to this race and we got to see about 40 laps of caution and 20 laps of green flag racing. We were on a tour bus and they had to get the bus back by morning early so we had to leave. We listened to the race on the bus on the way back home. I believe that Jeffy won that race. Oh, and we didn't get any money back.

You're saying this race may get the finger?

That tarp in the pitbox is the most rediculous thing I've ever seen. "My box is kinda dry. Lets start the race".
