Atwood Still In

http://www.nascar.com/2002/news/headlines/...rock/index.html

Now that throws a twist in why LePage left. Maybe something happened and LePage will be in 2003, but they wanted him out of the Busch car, so they could field the #91 again (besides with Hank) or the #07. Just speculation, but with everything related to LePage, I wouldn't be surprised if he raced in a cup race with Evernham before the year is over.

heard there was some kind of contractural obligation with Casey. Thing is tho, if Hank outguns him this weekend he might as well start looking for another ride.....maybe as far back as trucks or ARCA

Actually I think this is worse for him, that 7 car is terrible.

All I have to say is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Leave Casey...Get as far away as you can.

This is EXACTLY why I never go to Jayski.com and put very little stock in what is reported there. While he always has a source for his information, he spends no time checking the validity or reputation of that source.

That's why they are called rumors. They are worth what you pay for them.

However, there might be something behind that rumor. Evernham could have very well been considering to release Atwood, but there could have been contract issues. If it was reported on Nascar.com, there was probably something behind it that we don't know about.

Jay's is tabloid heaven. If ya don't check the link and read all the way thru the article, ya might find yerself buying in to a story that some un-named source has inside info that some cow just gave birth to alien baby who is going to make his first start next week.

I love jays.......I think it's a great site. But without checking the story myself I don't even go there. Jay's has Jay Sauter in the 71 this weekend while nascar.com has Tim listed. I checked every site I know related to all involved and have found nothing.

I want Jay in the 71. It means more RCR help. But the entry thing sez Tim. Sure, Dave can get out of the jam by explaining to Tim that RCR sez but dern, Tim ain't a bad driver either.

Anyways, I ain't taking jayski as gospel. It's not. Of course nascar.com ain't known for it's accuracy either.

I stay away from sites that choose to rumorport rather than report the news. My favorites are whowon.com and race2win.net....you will find verified reporting there. They are free too, I never go for rumor mongoring, it does too much damage.

Rumors are for discussion and that's what we do best here. I have no problem reading Jayski to get the latest rumor. I never take them for anything, if you do you probably believe everything you see in the tabloids.

Jayski is saying that Evernham is wanting out as a partner with Jim Smith.

Yep,

For "performance" issues. (or lack thereof).

Can't help but wonder if Dodge is inputting on this deal. Seems that the manufacturer is supplying significant numbers of dollars to all the Dodge teams, which would give them some voice. With the addition of Penske and a third Ganassi team they may be exerting some pressure on the teams to deliver quickly.

Dodge is probably pressuring Evernham to improve results in that #7 car or they will drop it from the manufacturer assisted teams.

I still say Cassey did as good or better in the 19 as Jeremy has considering that Cassey was a first year rookie!

I just hope that people will not hold this against Cassey

I do believe he's a good driver.

Maybe Hendricks will pick him up to drive the #5 Busch car for a year then replace Terry with Cassey in 2004

Who knows what Casey will do. I hope he at least stays in the Busch. I don't know if he came up early, but he really put it together towards the end of last year. Evernham has hurt this kid's career. I hope Casey can come back and give Evernham a taste of his own medicine.

I wonder if Smith's problems with the law, haven't been a factor in Evernham wanting out of this deal. Just a thought.

I'm sure Smith's problems with the laws has been one of the main reasons why Evernham wants out. The other is the poor performance.

I just wonder if he ever sits and thinks about how much he screwed up Casey's career, and was it really necessary to do that? I think if Casey would have continued in #19, he would have had a win by this point of the season. But now we'll never know, and Casey will just try to rebound his career.

Casey almost won that race at Homestead last year, maybe he can duplicate that run and save a little face. I don't think he will be able to do it driving the 7 car though.
