CONCORD, N.C. -- - Tommy Baldwin and Bill Davis Racing have parted ways, effective immediately, and Frank Stoddard will now take over crew chief duties for the No. 22 Dodge of Ward Burton.

Reports said that Baldwin and team owner Bill Davis got into heated argument on Sunday morning prior to the Protection One 400 at Kansas Speedway. Sources said that Baldwin reportedly told some team members that Sunday would be the last day he ever calls a race for Bill Davis Racing.

On Monday morning, Baldwin didn't show up for work at the team's shop.

Later in the day, Davis called a team meeting to report that Baldwin was no longer working at BDR and that Frank Stoddard would be taking over. Baldwin was seen cleaning out his office Monday afternoon, as well.

Under Baldwin, Burton has four Winston Cup Series victories with this year's prestigious Daytona 500 as the most notable. Burton is currently 27th in points with two wins, two top fives and six top-10 finishes

Baldwin had been with the team since the end of the 1998 season.

Stoddard was recently released from Roush Racing where he had been Jeff Burton's crew chief since 1998. After posting 14 wins with Burton during that time, the team has been winless this year and is 14th in points.

Maybe Baldwin will go to DEI now.
I wonder what the argument was about that he would quit at Bill Davis since he just said he was going to stay there a week or two ago.

Wow!!! What the heck is that all about?

Bad finishes, I suppose.

I wish Tommy could slide over as Steve Park's crew chief, but...

Only in Nascar...

Frankie Stoddard got fired by Jeff Burton only to go work for his brother. LOL.

It's a shame. Daytona curse again. Ward has just had some bad luck qualifying and gotten stuck in the muck. When he qualifies half decently he always has a good race.

(Swallowing some redneck pride)

I think it's a step up for Ward. That Yankee feller knows his way around a race car. But gracious God Almighty what the radio conversations will sound like. They'll both need translators.

I cannot WAIT to hear those conversations!!

As if Burton:Baldwin wasn't funny enough...

:ROFLMFAO:

Waaaaaaaaddddd Buuuuurrton

-and-

Frankie Staaaahhhhhhdaaaahhhddddd

I'm gonna love this...

:lol2:

Ah it's FRANK now not Frankie....lol.....did anyone else see the ad in the Winston Cup Scene and I will paraphrase this badly....saw you wanted to be called Frank now not Frankie..guess you have gotten a little "too big" signed Geoffrey Bodine.

Now for you newer fans Geoffrey was always Geoff until what three - four years ago. I laughed out loud when I read it.

As for the Stoddard to Burton move, man in my opinion there is only one car Wahd wants to beat and it's the 99. I expect Frank feels the same way. This could be interesting.

Add the 8 and Nadeau to that list. Well, he wants to beat them all of course, but most weeks he'd settle for the 8 and Nadeau I think.

I feel bad for Tommy Baldwin b/c he's probably really kicking himself right now.

Anyone remember when Ray Evernham left the Dupont team, the first person he recommended for his replacement was Tommy Baldwin? Tommy Baldwin turned down the #24 offer, saying that he was dedicated to his #22 team and didn't want to leave them hanging.

Oh well, at least he got the Daytona 500 win.

Yea, that's true rpmallen. Baldwin did turn down that job. You know he's had second thoughts about that one. A lot of people thought that the #24 team was going to the gutter once Ray left. Guess Jeff proved them wrong.:D

It is interesting. Do you think that Bill Davis was really PO'd at Baldwin when the news broke of the possible contract with DEI? This reason and the fact that Ward has run poorly, just pushed the situation over the edge. I bet Baldwin is kicking himself for not taking the DEI thing. On the other hand, however, the position for Jamie McMurray over at Ganassi isn't filled yet. Could Tommy end up there. Also, what part did the development of Tommy's Busch team play in the break up? Just food for thought.

Interesting how one argument and the guy so dedicated to Ward just left...must have been a huge thing there...
