Barret to pilot the 60 BGN next year.

Stanton Barrett is a stuntman that has raced on and off the past few years, currently for a BGN team owned by Jeff Hammond. This ride is a big break for him, and I'm sure we'll learn much more about him next season.

He's never impressed me that much as a racer, but this will be a good opportunity for him to show what he has.

I don't know how this came about or what Rousch saw in him. I haven't really ever seen him race maybe just once or twice and I forgot about it. But this is this kid's break, he will have a good set of wheels under him, hopefully he can perform with it.

Well, remember, that team is taking it's crew members up to Cup, so that team is basically going to have to start all over again. But it's a good car and team, so Barrett should have the right equipment under him to show what he has.

Hammond used to work for Jack. Maybe he saw talent in Stanton and put a bug in Jack's ear. Perhaps he (hammond) realized that he couldn't afford to put Barrett in the type of car he(barrett) deserved. After all, Jack has a lot more money.

I forgot about the Hammond - Roush connection. I wonder if Hammond might be coming over as a part owner?

Thats cool for him!!
I wonder if Jack canceled the BGN test for Sarah fisher that was set for the end of the year. I don't think that test would have flown under the radar, and us not hearing about it?

Barrett brings Odoban sponsorship with him. That could also have helped him land in Jack's lap.

I, too, saw him on IWC. Quite an engaging guy. I wish him well.

Not sure what Stanton has done to get this ride, but we were saying the same thing about Jaime a few weeks ago.

Good POINT ;)

I'm a big fan of Stanton Barrett. This is great news. I think he's done real well in the few Busch races he's run. Running pretty consistantly between 20th & 25th (lost a motor last week), but that's not bad for an underfunded and an underdeveloped team. He takes the money he earns from being a stunt man and uses it to pay for the racing, along with the sponsorships of Bojangles & Odobon. He does a lot of the stunt work on Fastlane. I believe his brother is the stunt co-ordinator on that show(?). Looking forward to seeing what he can do next year with the support of Roush. :)

If he is funding himself and doing decently, I bet Roush will really be able to help his career along. It might be slow at first, but if Roush sticks with him I wouldn't be surprised if we see some results, even if it takes to 2004.

Life in Roushketeer Land :)

What we got in the wings in Roushketeer Land is Greg, Jon, Kyle, and now Stanton. Greg will get at least 2 years at the Cup level to prove his stuff, Jon who has really shown very little with no top 5's and 10 10's in 19 starts against not the best competition, Kyle who imo is every bit as good if not better at driving deep than his older brother, and Stanton as a possible lame duck but without that bad a record considering his equipment.

Stepping in to the best Busch car Jack has will be a real test for the youngin. A definate go fast or go home deal. If Kyle rips thru the truck series (which I fully expect) and Stanton shows top five stuff, look for the the odd man out to be Jon Woods.

I would not be that certain that Kyle won't jump straight to Cup like his brother did. I think it depends on how much longer Mark wants to drive, and how Biffle pans out against the big boys. Matt is a solid producer so he'll be with Jack for a while. Burton has struggled but still hangs at the front of the pack so he's probably ok for at least another year.

I think it's great that the kid is getting such a good chance to show his stuff.

If Kyle shows Jack what he wants to see in the CTS and sposorhsip can be obtained ti would not be at all surprising for Kyle to straight to Cup. Both items will need to be present.

Jon may not be dependent on Jack for a WC ride. We'll see what developes at the Wood Bros over the next year or two.

I find that a Stanton Barrett ran a WC car some for Junie back in 1999. Managed to make a couple of races, but DNQ'd more. I am drawing a complete blank on that one. is it the same Barrett?

I wonder if Barrett had to go through the famous tryout that Jack runs, the one Kurt was talking about on IWC. He said they were graded on lap times, communication skills, and mock interviews.

Side note* I have been more vocal about Kurt than any other driver this year, but his hot seat performance in IWC kind of changed my opinion of him. Besides, my Dad races dwarf cars so I have to (sort of) root for anyone in Cup with that on their resume.:)

I'm pretty sure you are thinking about the same Stanton Barrett, HardScrabble. He's name has popped in and out of our sport for the past few years, but he's never been able to get a solid ride to race full season.

Thanks rpm.

I believe it is too, but couldn't call picture of Junies driver into my head, so I was not positive.

For no other reason then, I hope Stanton has the opportunity and ability to kick some tail in 2003!:)

I'm sure there were a lot of drivers that would have loved to have a chance in that #60 car. We should get to see what Stanton Barrett really has next season. The flip-side to that is if he doesn't run well for one reason or another, that could hurt his career. I suspect he will run well, though.

Stanton drove for Junie Dunlavey in 1999. He ran in Darlington and Las Vegas for sure. Haven't been able to confirm any other starts or where he finished in these two races. Here's a photo of Stanton & Junie at Darlington.
