Does anyone know why he have to miss qualifying and practice or wait 6 hours to watch it because of the Barrett Jackson Auctions? My thoughts are that they make SPEED a lot of money. SPEED doesn't get the coverage of the cup races so practice, qualifying and truck races are all they get. I would think they would want as many people watching those as possible. I'm sure there are a lot more people that would rather watch NASCAR than Barrett Jackson. I am one of them. I don't mind throwing the auctions on every once in a while to check out the cars but if qualifying or practice is on I'd rather watch that. NASCAR is 90% of the reason I ever even tune into SPEED. Maybe 85% because of "Are U aster Than A Redneck" lol.

I just think most of the people that watch SPEED are NASCAR fans most likely. So they must make good money off Barrett Jackson or something.

I'm just wondering what are your thoughts on having to wait or miss practice and qualifying because of Barrett Jackson?

Barrett Jackson has quite the fan base as well. They also have a contract with Speed. I'd guess that's the reason for the delay. Not that big of a deal. It's only a few times a year. If Speed were the NASCAR network then I'd be pi$$ed.

Yeah I figured they have a contract. It's not that I dislike the auctions. I just think it must take away from the audience even when they show qualifying later. Usually I watch it, I didn't yesterday because I was watching the live leaderboard. Same with today I will know who was fast before they even air it. I think they must make a nice chunk of change when the auctions do come around though.

I got all excited on Thursday because I finally got home for the first time in a while to catch Race Hub. Grabbed a beer, sat down, turned on Speed and wa la, Barret Jackson...........Needless to say I was pissed, ended up watching Big Bang Theory or something...

I didn't like missing live q'ing on TV, but I could follow on the computer so no big deal. As dpk said, it's only 2 or 3 times a year. And I do enjoy the auctions because some have cars that I can really relate to. LOL

I like watching car auctions, but this week has Mecum on Velocity and Barrett-Jackson on Speed. Car auctions might be popular but not popular enough to be competing with each other.

I enjoy the auctions. I don't believe the prices some cars command though. I always walk away kicking myself for selling a car or not buying one a long time ago when they had no real value but now go for big bucks..
They could do a better job of scheduling to avoid Q'ing conflicts.

Takes a special mindset to enjoy old cars. I like the history of them, how made so on,.but could care less about keeping a pile of bolts and paint in a garage and not being able to drive it. Always said if I could afford a Lamborghini, then i can afford to drive that bitch like it should be driven :)

I have some, bought to enjoy and drive, I like looking at the pile of bolts and paint, much better than having a 401k that a bunch of pinheads put together.

Sorry I'm Canadian, I am assuming 401 k is like our RRSP's? A savings plan that hides your money from tax implications til you retire? I have them, been paying into them since I was 18, does make you wonder why you pound money away when your young and healthy and able to have fun with it.

Yup sorry though, I really look at vehicles as tools for fun or work. Not much for having one use up my space, utilities, and time just to be pretty and look at. I would have gotten married if I wanted that :)

BUT I do understand your theory that at least you can look at it, say you own it and show it to people with a lot more pride then talking about your big retirement fund. lol

We are lucky to get to see so much live NASCAR. I don't know why people feel entitled to see every session live.

I too would rather watch almost any form of racing over any type of auction. I'm not a gear head; to me, it's just people spending money.

However, since Speed is in business to make money, I must conclude they make more money broadcasting B-J than they do showing qualifying or practice. Like Matt, I remember those days before sports networks when we were lucky to get a race live and flag-to-flag.
