Websters II defines bash as to "strike with a heavy blow".
I've never in my life seen a word so overused as this one is in the various forums I either post in or just read.
Everytime someone makes a joke they're called for bashing and even though they didn't mean anything personal to any other board member, they seem to take it that way.
I sincerely hope I didn't offend anyone, as that is not the intent.
Please read my sticky "About Respect"
I RARELY see bashing of other posters anymore, but the subtle bashing of drivers is still there.
TonyB, I have NEVER found your posts offensive or bashing! [/b][/quote]
Kat,
I think the points being made originally is that a "bash" by definition can't be subtle. A bash being defined as "to strike a heavy blow" simply can't be subtle.
If it's subtle, it just a "dig" or a "jab", but not a "bash."
So, I think the purpose of the post was to give us a linquistics lesson?
I had to do the linquistics thing this morning. Someone emailed me telling me that there was no such thing as "Quote Unquote" and asking me what kind of journalist I thought I was.
I sent them back a web page with an Professor of Linquistics from Michigan discussing the proper usage of "Quote Unquote."
As to what kind of journalist I thought I was, I wanted to know why he was "bashing" me.

By the way, the above was all presented as and intent to be read as light-hearted (almost a joke.) No politicians were harmed in the making of thise message, but I'm trying to improve my aim for next time.
