McALESTER, Okla. (AP) - Basketballs are usually puffed up with air, but somebody found a way of inflating one with a substance usually associated with puffing of another kind.

Oklahoma State Penitentiary officials cut into an exercise-yard basketball and found nearly two pounds of what is believed to be marijuana stuffed inside.

Acting on a tip from McAlester police, prison officials searched the yard and found the basketball, which held 30 one-ounce packets of the leafy substance.

They seized the basketball from the Talawanda Heights unit, which houses 65 minimum security inmates for the prison and sits away from the main part of the facility.

Department of Corrections spokeswoman Linda Morgan said two inmates are on lockdown in connection with the seizure.

Morgan said officials don't know how the basketball got on the prison grounds.

There's no way to stop illegal drug traffic other than make drugs legal ... and I believe that making drugs legal will cut down on people doing drugs.

I agree with you there MM, I also really feel like the economy would benefit from legalizing Industrial Hemp, which is outlawed because of its relation to the marijuana plant, but doesn't alter the mind or anything when smoked...of course, it isn't for smoking, but can be used for just about anything...ever looked into it? Pretty interesting stuff.

That old argument. Legalize it..........that'll cut down on crime. Pretty safe statement since a lot of crime is related to drugs. :) Make it legal, then it's not a crime.........poof, instant crime reduction!! :D And, if anyone thinks making it legal will reduce the use is using a little too much of that "to be legalized stuff"!! :)

yeah, but if we legalize it, we can monitor it and set up regulations and whatnot, making it less attractive to the user, since it isn't addictive, people will probably pass on it if they will be getting some government regulated stuff.
