Trevor Bayne was admitted to Carolinas Medical Center-University in Charlotte, NC, on Sunday morning after returning home from the Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway. According to a Roush Fenway Racing team spokesman Corey Wynn, Bayne's illness has not been diagnosed. But the 20-year-old winner of this year's Daytona 500 had tweeted earlier: "Not sure if its a spider bite or a tick bite . . . But either way I'm in a hospital bed with a needle in my arm! #nobueno". Bayne began exhibiting symptoms Tuesday. On Friday, he was taken to the infield care center at Texas Motor Speedway, where he was administered antibiotics. Then, Saturday night, he went to the emergency room when the Roush plane returned to Charlotte, and he was admitted to the hospital.
 
Those Texas spiders are mean if that's where he was bitten. A friend of mine used to be in the Army National Guard and went to Fort Hood for his two-week annual training. While down there, he was bitten by some kind of spider and was in the hospital the whole time he was down there.
 
Of course as an arachnophobic person I will go out of my way to demonize the spiders of the world.

From Tuesday to Saturday before be hospitalized? That ain't no spider bite. Spider bites you and the hospital is only a few hours away.. No way he could have driven a racecar..

I assume there are just as many poisonous spiders in North Carolina?
 
Can't recall who it was but a couple of years ago a guy down south on the ww'ing forum got bit by a brown recluse spider [IIRC the name right] and he dammm near died.
 
Spiders

There are only two poison spiders in North Carolina:
The Black Widow
The Brown Recluse

When biten by either one you need medical attention quickly.
 
I hope Trevor has a full and complete recovery before his next race.

Roush Fenway Racing's Trevor Bayne was treated and released Sunday from Carolina Medical Center University Hospital in Charlotte after a reaction from an apparent insect bite on his left elbow that the 20-year old driver suffered last week while at home. "Trevor has been treated and released from the hospital and is fine to continue with his daily activities - including driving a race car," said Roush Fenway president Steve Newmark. "Doctors are still waiting for the test results to determine for sure what caused the reaction, but Trevor has been treated, is at home and he is doing fine." Additional information should be available at the end of the week. Bayne competed in both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup races at Texas Motor Speedway over the weekend. He is scheduled to compete in both events this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway
 
hope he didn't get lyme disease from a tick. that can be pretty bad.
 
Maybe some good news for Bayne.....

Appears Bayne has All-Star sponsor. Press conference tomorrow at Nascar HOF with Camping World and Good Sams Club scheduled.

Daytona 500 Winner Trevor Bayne Hospitalized For Lingering Symptoms From Insect Bite

Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne has been hospitalized again with symptoms that may be related to the insect bite he received earlier this month on his left elbow.

Bayne, 20, will miss Friday's Nationwide Series race at Richmond International Raceway while undergoing tests. Roush Fenway Racing president Steve Newmark said Bayne was not feeling well, and doctors believe it's because of lingering symptoms from the mysterious bite.

Roush Fenway will use a substitute driver in Bayne's No. 16 car on Friday night.

"Obviously Trevor wanted to be in Richmond and he's upset about not being able to compete," Newmark said. "However, his health is our top priority and we insisted that he have these tests to get to the bottom of his symptoms."

Bayne's Sprint Cup Series team, Wood Brothers Racing, doesn't have sponsorship for Richmond and was already planning to sit out this weekend's race. But Bayne had been in the running for the Nationwide Series championship, sitting fourth in points and just four markers out of first place.

His Nationwide title hopes will take a big hit, but it's obvious he needed to place the priority on his health.

Could be

a Tick bit him. Or an infection from a simple scratch on his arm could do this also.
Doesn't sound like any spider bite I've ever heard of.

I got bit by a brown recluse, or "Fiddleback" as they're called some places, and the only reason I didn't die was that I wasn't that lucky. :) How it affected me, and most of the others who I have talked to who have suffered the same bite, was high fever, chills, severe pain and inflammation at the wound.

I agree with whoever said that if it was a brown recluse bite he wouldn't have been able to drive a race car. Hell, it would have been all he could do just to stay vertical!

Another nasty affect is that the wound will drain for a couple of weeks and the poison will eat some of the skin. It left me with a hole in my leg that looks remarkably like a gun shot wound.

I'd think the racing bug make you be able to race more not miss a race. So unless he goes on some crazy run later this season we can eliminate a possible Nationwide title contender? Then again you never know because the Cup drivers skew the points standings quiet a bit so if he could pull of a few wins he could be up there again.

Trevor Bayne being treated at Mayo Clinic, will likely remain there through weekend

Car owner Jack Roush said Saturday that Trevor Bayne has been at the Mayo Clinic since Wednesday. Bayne has been hospitalized since suffering symptoms _ including double-vision, nausea and fatigue _ a second time for what is believed to be related to an insect bite Bayne suffered about a month ago.



As for how long Bayne will remain at the Mayo Clinic, Roush said that “I expect he’ll be released the first part of next week, that’s my guess.’’



Here’s what Roush said about Bayne:



“He went into the Clinic for a series of tests to try to figure out what was causing the symptoms he had,’’ Roush said. “There was a double-vision issue. He had a number of symptoms that were consistent with this bug bite that he had, some swelling. At any rate, they went through the tests and the report I had (Friday) was that he was negative on all the sinister side of the tests and that they were going to retest him in another month or so, but they were not going to deal with the symptoms rather than try to figure out what caused it.



“They’ve come back to believing it was a bug bite and they weren’t able to find there was anything more than a bite.’’



Roush was transferred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., after his plane crash in Wisconsin in late July. Roush spent about two weeks there for treatment of his facial injuries, including the loss of vision in one eye, from the plane crash.

BUG BITE!!

What the hell does "bug bite" mean??? Was it a Junebug? Maybe a Lady Bug?? Seems by now someone would have isolated just what in the hell it was.. Maybe theFBI should be called in and do their forensic tests on him..

Good thing he didn't drive with double vision theres only a 50/50 chance you won't hit someone.
 
I'm not sure if it's simply an incorrect use of the term on their part but a spider is not an insect.

"We talked to his family and said, 'He's 20 years old; this racing stuff is irrelevant. Let's get him tested and be comprehensive about it," Newmark said at Richmond International Raceway a few hours before Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint Cup race. "I've heard all the theories from the benign to the sinister. The bottom line is nobody knows. They've run a comprehensive battery of tests. The real hope is by early next week, we'll have some indication one way or the other what it is."

Out of respect to Bayne's family and their privacy, Newmark said he wouldn't confirm or deny any reports of Bayne's status. "My hope is what we find out is that it was just benign, and that Roush Fenway overreacted, but whatever the result is, what I've the family is, 'You tell us how you want us to handle this; if you want us to tell people what happened or not.' We'll see how that plays out."

FoxSports.com reported that Roush told Joe Moore of MRN during the Friday broadcast of the Nationwide race that Bayne "woke up on Monday morning, and he had double vision, and we said, 'Wait a minute.' His father and I had a meeting, we met on the phone. We need to take him to the Mayo Clinic and figure out what's going on so we make sure we don't overlook something that could be bad for him. He's been in the clinic all week. They've done some tests on him. They haven't found anything sinister. There's nothing wrong with him that they can find that would preclude him from having a normal life, a normal career and doing all the things he's destined to do."

Roush recuperated at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., after losing vision in his left eye during a plane crash last year. Roush told MRN that he expected a return in next week's Nationwide race at Darlington for Bayne, who is running full time in the Nationwide Series for Roush and part time with Wood Brothers Racing in Cup this season.

Newmark said there hadn't been any discussions about Darlington yet.

"It's not even the focus," he said. "If the doctors say he's cleared, then we'll race. If they say no, he won't. If it's somewhere in the middle, you sit down with the family and talk about it."
 
This mystery is starting to rank up there with Mayfield's and Tim Richmond's. It's not quite there yet, but it's getting there.
 
Geez he needs Dr. House or someone to figure this out.

That tweet was from last Saturday and for a guy that is fairly active on twitter with daily updates, that seems like a long time ago.

From what I understand listening to CB Lang on NASCAR Radio last night, he's out of his ride again this week. She said that it was to be announced today.

Personally this whole thing is starting to scare me. There hasn't been an update on his condition at all. Only a few statements on where he is at, some initial symptoms and that's it. I really hope that the bad feelings that I have about this are unwarranted. Thought's and prayers out to you Trevor Bayne.

Well the "where god wants me to be " comes to mind. I think he had better concern himself with his health rather than where his "god" wants him to be.
