I saw the blurb on Jayski about Bayne being in the 21 this year and Bill Elliott going to the 09. I heard Eddie Wood on the radio yesterday talking to Jerry Punch about their '11 plans. He said they're going to run the first 5 races and plan to run 18 races, up from 13 last year. He said if they can get sponsorship they can easily do all 36 races next year.

I think I heard some where the Wood Brothers were trying to buy the points from the #19 so they can be locked in when the season starts. Would be interesting considering Nascar not allowing the 09 to do that a couple years ago when they had Kesolowski.

Hmmm this interesting, hope Bill makes a decent showing with that car and just isn't a start and park.

Looks like Elliott in the 09 is nothing more than rumor.....

James Finch says he has no plans to put Bill Elliott in his #09 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chevy for the opening five races of the 2011 season. Finch told Sirius-Speedway.com that he knew nothing of the deal until reading about it online earlier this week.

Who knows? It wouldn't be the first time that a rumor was denied only to become fact.

Looks like the information was wrong unless something else is in the works and they're trying to keep quiet about it.

Wood Brothers Racing will continue its long NASCAR odyssey in 2011 when it begins its 58th year of competition. As it has for the past few seasons, in an effort to get the most out of performance and sponsorship, it will race on a limited schedule out of its shops in Harrisburg, N.C., with veteran driver and 1988 champion Bill Elliott wheeling its Fords.(Motorsports Unplugged)(12-22-2010)

I wish they'd stop B Essing and just tell us their plans...sheesh

More on Wood Brothers plans: #21-Wood Brothers Racing will compete in 17 races in 2011 four more than it did in 2010 and hopes to start the year with Trevor Bayne behind the wheel. Team co-owner Eddie Wood said Tuesday that he has no driver deals signed for 2011 and only confirmed Bayne for the test at Daytona, but it appears the team is working on several more races for the 19-year-old and he possibly will be its primary driver for the season. The organization is working on running the first five races in 2011 but even if it didn't run each of those five, its 2011 schedule will include 17 races. "The things that are in place is we're going to try to run the first five races and pending additional funding, run more races we are up to 17 races either way," Wood said. "We're working on putting a deal together for Bayne. We're going to be using Roush [Fenway] equipment and Roush engineering. That's one big change we'll have rather than doing it ourselves

Now as for the 09 rumor and Elliot ...I wonder if there is some truth to that?

So much for James Finch's earlier denial.....

Bill Elliott will drive the #09 Phoenix Racing entry for a limited NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule beginning with the Daytona 500, team owner James Finch confirmed on Monday. "Hopefully, he will run 18 races, maybe more, depending on sponsorship," Finch said. "It's great to have NASCAR's most popular driver ever in our car. We've been friends with him a long time and we're happy to have him in the car." Finch said the team will test this week at Daytona International Speedway in preparation for Speedweeks in February. Nick Harris will serve as Elliott's crew chief. The Chevys will be powered with Hendrick motors.

Funny how much these guys try to BS everyone.

Exactly. Both sides denied anything was happening, but the stories were out there. If the Wood Brothers had intentions of running with Elliott again, he would have been at the Daytona test.

Bill Elliott Announces 2011 Plans

Bill Elliott has accomplished a lot in his NASCAR career, including 44 Sprint Cup wins, 55 poles, the 1988 championship and 16 Most Popular Driver awards.

But he’ll be doing something new in 2011. For the first time in his career, he’ll start the season as a Chevrolet driver. He has teamed up with James Finch’s Phoenix Racing to run the No. 09 Chevrolet in a minimum of 18 races this season.
