Just saw the new BCS rankings and it's LSU, Oregon, Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri the top five. Note that three of those teams are in the Big 12 with two of them from one division.

My question is this...do you think that Kansas, who is unbeaten, will be able to play for the national title if they 1) beat Missouri and 2) beat Oklahoma for the Big 12 title?

The Ducks still have AZ, UCLA and Ore St. If they win all 3 they're in regardless of what Kansas does.
LSU has Ole Miss and Ark and their CG. And, it they win out...
Besides, I'm not sold that KU gets by Mizzou.

Tho maybe LSU will drop another game and we'll have 2 teams that haven't been there, Ore and KU. That would be refreshing. And, it would help turn the BCS on its ear as peeps argued the best teams weren't playing...

The Jayhawks have beaten only two teams with winning records: 6-4 Central Michigan and 6-5 Texas A&M. A 30-24 win at Kansas State doesn't seem as impressive after the Wildcats lost consecutive games to Iowa State and Nebraska.

I just don't think they deserve to be in New Orleans

Okay, another #2 team bites the dust. Them Ducks are well out of the picture now for the title with a loss to Aridzona. Hurt QB as well. Now, can those Jayhawks beat the Tigers of Mizz?

And Oklahoma can kiss their butt goodbye. Jeez, maybe Ohio State can get back in the picture.

I'm getting used to these late season losses. The sooners can still write their own ticket to a major bowl game, but they have to win two more games, one of which will either be Kansas, or Missouri, a team that they already beat. But first, they have to get by Oklahoma State.

UVA is fighting for the ACC Championship. Their game on Nov. 24 against Virginia tech will be a big one.

Well with BC beating Clemson to take one of the spots for the ACC-CG you have to know the Gator Bowl folks are hoping VT wins so they can sell some tickets. Funny how that could work out. If BC plays UVA you could put all the people from the 2 schools in a Motel 6 and probably have rooms left over. If it had been Clemson playing VT, hotels from Savannah to Orlando would have been filled.

That is the way the cookie crumbles. Losers don't get to go. :D

From your lips to God's ears, brother :D

It is actually possible for the Buckeyes to get back into the national title game. Kansas and Missouri play each other so one of them will lose. That will leave only the winner of that game, West Virginia and LSU ahead of them. 2 or 3 of those teams still have a conference championship game to play. I am also a long-time West Virginia fan since all of my family (and my wife's family also) is from there. There is a good chance I will get to see either Ohio State or West Virginia in the title game. I hope it will be OSU, but WVU would be pretty cool too.

I've always wanted to ask, how much is your home insurance? Is the fire department sitting outside your house when WVU plays? When you retire will you move back to WV and open a Used Couch store? What is with burning your couch if they win? I've never been able to make the connection.
;)

I never understood that either. In places like LA and Detroit they riot and set cars and stores on fire when they celebrate a win. :cuckoo:

True, but that's usually reserved for big wins. They even rioted in Crapel Hill when Carolina won the NC in bassetball. Cars were flipped over. Fires were set, and the like. But, WV burned couches when they rolled over EzU, 48-7.
Maybe one day my lowly Wolfpack will get a win we think is good enough to celebrate...

I think there is generally much less to do with your time down there. I know that West Virginia leads the nation in people on disability per capita. I know there are not a whole lot of jobs to go around down there also. Personally, if I were in that situation I think I could still find much better ways to spend my time.

Well, another one (#1) bites the dust with LSU losing to Arkansas last night. Also, Texas A&M beat arch rival Texas and then has it's coach resign. What's happening in the world of college football?

It was a great game tho:D (LSU)

With my wolfies having had the pleasure of Coach Herring (Ark DC) for one year I can say the man appears to know his business. That was the year we were ranked #1 on Defense even tho the O struggled a bit.
Interestingly enough he had been fired from Clemson. Tommy Bowden was struggling to keep his job so he fired many of his coaching staff trying to convince their faithful he was hiring better coaches so Clemson could turn the corner.

Strange year. No team wants to step up and claim to be number one. Missouri vs kansas, they will probably both lose.:)

bp, my condolences to you with the Wolfies game against Murderland. Did those Terps murder yer Wolfies. They looked like Puppies out there. Not good for Senior Day. You did see that Weak Forest won didn't you? Oh, and my Sooners will now play probably the new number one team in the nation since it will either be Kansas or Missouri. I'm rootin' for the Jayhawks cause them Sooners already beat the Miz Tigers.

Okay, let's see now.

#1 LSU lost to an unbeaten team
#2 Kansas lost to #4 Missouri
#3 West Virginia beat UConn by like 50 points
#4 Missouri beat #2 Kansas as stated above
#5 Ohio State is done for the year

so it looks like

Missouri will likely leap frog WVU for #1 based on them beating the previous #2 team.
WVU will likely move up to #2
Ohio State will likely move up to #3

Missouri still has to play a tough Oklahoma team next saturday night in the Big 12 championship game while WVU plays a weak Pittsburgh team on the same day. While Ohio State is still done playing, of course.

So if both Missouri and WVU win next week they will play each other for the BCS championship. If either one of them loses next week, the one that won will play Ohio State in the BCS championship game. So it looks very likely that I will get to see either my beloved Buckeyes or my Mountaineers (where my entire family comes from) play for the title. Life is good. :D

Nothing like backing into the title game huh. Well, while I'm hoping for an OU win over Mizzou, and that will be very hard beating them twice in one season, it is a shame that those teams at the top had to play each other to maintain their status, while OSU didn't even have to play in a conference title game. But if OU does beat Mizzou again, it's likely that the Buckeyes will be playing for the national title. They'd better not lose their edge with all this time off. A month of playing only themselves might not be a good idea.

Until the Big 1(Eleven)0 and the Pac 10 get a championship game the others will be at a disadvantage. Until the NCAA starts to take an interest in a champion and having teams schedule real competition deciding who the best team is will just be a crapshoot.
In the ACC, for example, what did we really learn when VT and UVA played Duke? There needs to be more flexibility in the scheduling if a team wants a shot at the championship. Then teams who don't, like my Wolfpack, can continue to play the Weak Forests of the world (yeah, I know ;) ) and go about their merry business.

The Mizzou vs. Kansas game atmosphere was crazy. A great win for the Tigers...should be a good game vs. Oklahoma. It's either Mizzou or Ohio State in the championship IMO, as West Virginia has it locked up.

Seems to me I remember some smart fellow on these here boards warning Kansas to watch out for Mizzou...now who was that... ;)

I do believe that it was ajk and ward... oh, and there was this other smarty pants kid that also thought that KU might have a problem with Mizzou. :)
