Drivers throughout the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series garage were still talking about last week's three-wide finish at Daytona International Speedway. While they admitted the finish was good for television, most wondered why NASCAR allowed Johnny Benson to drive below the yellow line - Daytona's out of bounds line - to jump from third to second in the final 200 yards. Benson wasn't penalized because "if you can see the checkered flag on the last lap, anything goes," according to NASCAR spokesman Owen Kearns.(Augusta Chronicle)(2-24-2007)

I'm a little confused by nascar's rules....they seem to be changing the rules as they go again.

this seems to me to be more of a safety issue than anything....this is a MAJOR source of the "big" ones.....i guess nascar wants to see one on the last lap.

I thought the yellow rule line was developed when we had folks on these superspeedways abuse them to the point where drivers where getting run into the grass and drivers (I remember Jeff Gordon) running below the yellow line going into a turn. I could see allowing this practice of running below the line while headed for the checkers but NASCAR needs to come clean as to if they are going to allow racers to do it.
