Just asking opinions, if you had to pick 5 road ringers to drive for you, one at every track (pretending there are 5 road courses on the schedule) who would they be?

I dunno my exact order but I know my list would include Montoya, Piquet Jr, and Villanueve...

Hahaha jk it would be like this (in order):

1. Allmendinger
2. Ambrose
3. McDowell
4. Said
5. Papis

I'd have to say that Ambrose is currently #1 for me! As for the rest, that's a tough one. I do know that Boris Said would be near the bottom as he does more wrecking now than anything.

Ambrose
Allmendinger
Kurt Busch
Montoya
Jeff Gordon(I haven't forgotten where I came from haha)

Ambrose and Allmendiger with Montoya third.

The rest are either wreckers or trouble makers.

Papis is just an a**hole out on the track most of the time and Said is just plain terrible. At least on the NASCAR circuits.

Ambrose
Keselowski
Kyle Busch
Bowyer
Truex

There are no ringers... the ringers are the cup guys that drive these cars all the time....when's the last time a "ringer" even got a top 10 let alone came even close to winning one of these things?

Going off the past few years.

Its hard not to add Kurt Busch and Montoya in there but I had to stick to 5

According to the statistics, Morgan Shepherd is a better RC driver than Papis and Villeneuve.

No joke.

I meant ringers but since everyone is poo pooing them I will update my list with regulars:

1. Ambrose
2. Allmendinger
3. Kyle Busch
4. Kez
5. McDowell

#1 on my list ----------------- The dude that pulled Steven Wallaces hair ...................................... OK he wasnt a driver but he should be

Anyone who watched Kurt almost win Sonoma in the 51 last year would put him Top 5

Kurt has had one win on a road course out of 26 races. That puts him at number 18 on the list.

Just as a reference, Stewart has had 7 wins in 29 road course races and Gordon has 9 in 42 road races.

Imo the criteria is the recent races at WG and Sonoma.

1. Ambrose
2. Kyle Busch
3 Bowyer
4 Truax
5. Keselowski

Honourable mentions

Kurt Busch
Jimmie Johnson

Staying on the "current" terms Gordon and Stewart have not performed well enough to make the cut.
Gordon killed his car at the Glen, and the most remarkable moment in recent times for Tony was the pissing contest with Vickers at Sonoma. In the last 3 years they have collectively led a total of RC 26 laps. (Note in career terms they have HoF credentials on Road courses, but again that doesnt apply to the current status imo).

Disclaimer: the above is just my opinion, if you dont have the good sense to agree, you are still alright with Greg, just a little afflicted in the head :) I wont hold it against you.

you changed the criteria. I don't think of any of them guys when I talk road racing.

1. Kurt Busch
2. Marcos Ambrose
3. Brad Keselowski
4. Kyle Busch
5. Tony Stewart

Maybe I am missing something, but this the Nascar "chat" forum, and the Cup races themselves is the toughest criteria given the context.

Are we taking into account how certain drivers have run there but get taken out because of outcomes outside of their doing?

I mean, outside of Kyle Busch and Marcos none of those guys have even won more than a race at said tracks. Just ran good.

And also, In the case of Brad, AJ, Max, Boris, Mcdowell (for some ungodly reason listed here????) haven't gotten a win here so what's deal?

This thread has gone from listing current best Road Couse RINGERS to best Cup drivers at RC to winningest.

Circus.

If not for unfortunate circustances, Gordon could have won at Sonoma the last 2 years in a row.

I'll give you Glen. He is lost there for sure but still, discounting his ability to wheel a car at the Road Courses is silly. Same thing counts for Tony.

This thread has evolved quite a bit. But hey, I am not one to implode the movement.

Also, McDowell has been great at right turns as of late...I mean look at his results in 2013.

One second place, one second place before have engine issues, and one running top 10 in THE 35 FRM CAR FOR GOSH SAKE before having issues.

Valid point on Mcdowell which makes my point clear about a driver running good before this or that happened.

Last decade I would have said Ron Fellows, no doubt. He was one of the few ringers who was a threat to win every time he raced. Had several 2nd place finishes and strong runs driving for Nemechek, DEI, and HOF Racing. Won multiple times in the Busch Series too.
