Oh boy, I remember when I was but six years old and at the time, still thinking there was a real Santa Claus. It was Christmas Eve and that was the time my family opened their gifts. Before we were to open them, the folks said that we should go for a ride and see the lights first. My sister and I ran for the car and mom and dad followed. Dad said that he had forgotten the keys and would be right back.
When we got back from the ride, it was after midnight and sis and I hustled back into the house in anticipation of opening our presents. When I rounded the corner of the kitchen, I could see this big red bicycle standing beside the tree. My eyes grew big and I ran for it saying, "Santa brought me my bike!" I believe that was my biggest surprise of all time. Now the best gift I ever got was a few years ago. Earlier in the year, the Mrs and I would hit the video store for movies, but sometimes we would go in and browse this artsy type store. There was all sorts of prints from various artist and also a few model diaramas that were very nice. Anyway, my eye caught this one print of Bill Elliott winning the Winston Million at Darlington Speedway. It was signed by both the artist and Elliott. It was a bit pricey, but I so much wanted it. Then, one December day, we walked into the store and to my horror, the print was gone!
The Mrs was behind me at the time and I sulked to the owner, you sold my print. He said, yes, someone had finally purchased it. I looked around a little longer and we finally left the store. Well, you guessed it, the Mrs is the person who purchased the print. She was worried the store owner would say something, but because she was behind me when we walked in, she was able to sign to him not to say anything. When Christmas morning came that year, I opened a little box that told me to go upstairs and look under the bed for my present. When I did, I couldn't believe what I saw. That print is now hanging right behind me on the wall of my computer room. It's a beauty. I was going to attach a picture, but the camera isn't working at the moment. Maybe later.
