Best Driving of the Year

Who do you think showed the best driving all year and in what race? It can be a certain save some driver had or somebody that drove a well of a race on tooth and nails the entire time.

Michael Waltrip, turning his team around for a solid 14th place finish in the point standings, up from 27th last year.

I think it had to be Tony Stewart or Mark Martin. Both had to come from the back of the pack to the front in many races and did it well.

I liked how Jeff Gordon drove Bristol, especially the night race. But, I'm sure Rusty would disagree.

Matt Kenseth won the most races didn't he? He gets my vote.

I liked Jeff Burton at the Winston with the gas thing since his pit was right befor the finish line prefect I loved it

Mark Martin- Charlotte. I don't ever remember Mark driving a car that hard.

I have to put my vote in for Todd Bodine at Talladega. The car was completely sideways and he saved a huge wreck. But then again he also gets the worst move of the year for the wreck he caused at Charlotte

And he came from some really tough situations to win a few of those races too. Starting at the rear for engine changes, coming from a lap down.....

Course his pit crew is the best in the biz.

I agree with the Bodine save at Dega.....Benson's win will stand out performance wise and Nadeau's performance at Sears Ponit also stands out even tho he didn't finish the race.....

Mark's charge thru traffic for the win and/or Kurt's run at Bristol.

Cant forget McMurray at Lowes Motor Speedway... that was a great race!

I liked the Watkins Glen race a lot. The last restart was really cool. Stewart took everybody by surprise.

Everyone who missed Harvick after his bonehead maneuver at Chicago.

I don't know why but I got pretty pissed about TN statement. I got to go vent now. See ya.

I am Harvick fan, I thought the move was boneheaded too. I was sitting there yelling at my T.V.

I think Sterling Marlin over the course of the year only 29 races, 18th in points.

Kurt Busch, for one of the great single-season turnarounds in Winston Cup history. Only one person I can think who ever gained more than Kurt's 24 spots in points is Ricky Rudd (31st to 5th for 1999 to 2000).

Keneseth being 2 laps down at Richmond and winning was pretty impressive

And Sterlings worst to first at Darlington was nice. I mean at somewhere like Daytona or Dega its not as amuzing as Darlington

I think i have the winner here folks: Tony Stewarts long drive back to Lake Norman after the Daytona 500. With him stopping in SC at a Waffle House and picking up the whole places tabs. Now thats the best driving of the year!!!!!!!

Nobody mentioned the restraint shown by Johnny Benson when he could have had his first win, ( I forget which race) but refused to resort to dirty driving, preferring to get his win from racing others clean instead of pushing them out of the way.
I think he gained a lot of respect from most of the other drivers with his actions.

i would have to say all the rookies, in reference to their consistency that kept them up in the top end of the points, congrats to all the rookies:D

High on my list would be Johnny and Mark at Rockingham. Both drivers wanting the win as much as humanly possible and both on tires near the end of their useful racing life. Using all the available lines on a tough track and keeping it clean and close for many laps down to the flag.

And welcome to the board!:D

Make yourself to home and speak your mind.

hey boB welcome to the boards. hope you'll enjoy your stay
~judas opens a cold one and slides i down to boB~

Newman and Busch was a pretty good battle at New Hampshire! Tough, clean racin'.

Thanks for the welcome folks. I've been lurking around for quite some time and this forum seems to be one of the best I've seen so far.
Judas, make that cold one ice water if you could; gave up the other stuff several years ago.
I've got some great shots of Bush and Newman here at NHIS in September. Actually somewhere around 250 exposures from that race which I just haven't taken the time to scan into my computer yet.

About ten miles north of the speedway in Laconia. We've raced in Loudon since around 1960 or '61.

I live in Holyoke, MA not sure if you are familiar with this area at all.
