Best finish you've ever seen?

I'm sure I could probably come up with a better one than today if I try real, real hard. I'm not really what you would call a Ricky Craven fan, but I've always liked and respected the guy. That was a great last few laps. Two guys who personafied desire. Beatin' and bangin' right across the finish line. Wow!

One of the other best I have seen was Jeff Gordon giving Rusty the old bump-n-run in last years Bristol Night Race. If that had been on the last lap it might beat this one. But then again, I'm sure that is mainly because Jeff is my favorite driver.

How about you guys?

79 500, Cale and Bobby duking it out like todays finish...bumping and banging down the backstretch...wreck each other then get out and beat the crap out of each other.

This comes close to the Harvick-Gordon finish a few years back, but I think that this is about as close as it gets and it is the best race I have ever seen! :D Great racin'! :bounce:

When and where was the "pass in the grass"?
That was gonna be mine....'87 Winston

The 2000 Atlanta race with Dale and Bobby was a good one and the Rockingham race in 2001 with Steve and Bobby was pretty exciting.

Thanks Fergy...I knew I could count on an Earnhardt fan to have that info handy. That was a great finish also. A great move by a great driver.

They were all great finishes but was this one the closest?

Todays was probably the closest I've ever seen, but my favorite is still the 2000 fall Talledega race. That was just incredible.

Dale Jarrett and Davey Allison[michigan?] a few years back was a classic, too.

But this is about the best I have seen in a long, long, long time!

Both of these guys deserve a tip of the helmet.Craven the definite underdog determined to beat possibly the grittiest driver on the circuit!

Great job Ricky! Both guys were gracious afterwards which just added to the great finish.A classic.

You know what makes it awesome too? The fact that they both gave each other MUCH respect in their interviews. Class acts, the both of them.

That's very true. I expected to hear Kurt say something really stupid when they approached his car right afterwards. But he really impressed me. An aweful lot of drivers would have not handled that nearly as well. He showed a lot of maturity there. I think he knows he will win a lot more races in the future. Ricky has to be well liked even by his competitors. I though Ricky was going to cry in Victory Lane. That just made it even better seeing how much it meant to him to win.

It wasn't just in the interviews either.

"We came out of four and the wheel snapped out of my hands," Busch said. "I did what I could. It looked like I turned into him and I grabbed all the wheel I could to try to turn to the right."

"I didn't give him room in (turn one) and he didn't give him room out of (turn four). That's the way it's supposed to be, this was some hard fought racing."

Craven said afterwards he was unsure he had won.

"I really didn't know whether I'd won or not," he said following his second Winston Cup career victory. "Kurt is such a good racer and we got together. I don't know why we didn't wreck with a couple of laps to go."

I think it was the best finish I have ever seen!!! Man I was cheering for Craven and thought he lost it after they tangeld with like 3 laps to go!! But he pulled it off!! COngrats to CRAVEN

Yes that was Michigan and that is still the finish that will stay with me forever. I was a diehard Davey Allison fan and I hated DJ for winning that race! I was there in the infield and wanted so badly to see Davey win a race in person. I had liked DJ since he had begun racing but he took away from me something that would have been so great I just couldn't bring myself to admire what he had done. I have occasionally mentioned the fact that I have seen my favorite driver get his first career Winston Cup win but I always add a footnote that I truly did not want him to win on that very day!
