Best NASCAR statistics source?

(I couldn't find if there was a site-search function.)

What is the most accurate and complete source for NASCAR's end-of year points? I've checked both NASCAR.com and Racing-Reference.info and found quite a few differences in their listings. For example, the 1983 points:

http://www.nascar.com/en_us/sprint-cup-series/standings.default.1983.html
http://www.racing-reference.info/yeardet/1983/W

The project I am working on needs the correct data to input, otherwise the results would be meaningless. I'm looking for everything from Sprint Cup through Strictly Stock back in 1949. Thanks for your help.

ps. Let me know if there is any kind of newbie initiation I have to go through.

The only reference I know of that would have all of that is the set of books written by Greg Fielden.

Other than racing reference and the books, I have no clue.

Interesting. Looks like a discrepancy on a lap leader bonus between Labonte and Bonnett? That used to be five points right?

I was more curious as to why Dick Brooks was 14th on one and 19th on the other.
Which mad me google him.....

To try to answer the question, though, the results from NASCAR.com are the official ones. Not sure what you are using the data for, but it would be hard for someone to dispute you if the sport itself is your source.

You can't really explain this one easily. It appears Nascar has made a mistake on Brooks points in 83. Only because another site said 14th position but who knows. :idunno:

If anyone knows where to get 5-lap or 20-lap averages for the current week's practice sessions, I'd appreciate a link. I can get 10-lap averages from Jayski.

Thanks.

I suppose that for my own sanity I'll rely on what is reported on NASCAR.com, so at least I can cite my source if anyone disagrees with my eventual conclusions. I been looking there, as well as Racing Reference and also Jayski. It seems that even for a recent random year such as 2000 they don't all agree, not even on the number of different drivers, or who finished in 20th place.
