best ROTY

Hylton also finished 2nd in the points that same year and was not just a one year wonder either. His retirement last year from racing was just too bad for his competitors, he still could have taught them so much!

My vote goes there too Lappy!

Jimmy johnson had 3 wins as well, but I say tony stewart as well he was more consistant his rookie year.

I was gonna say Jimmie Johnson, but He was not a ROTY,Ryan Newman was 2002 ROTY!
I'll go with Davey Allison 1987 ROTY with 2 wins,9 Top 5's,10 Top 10's in 22 starts!I just wish that He could've been with Us a good bit longer!May He RIP!

i am still going with James Hylton. i mean 78% of him racing in the top 10. and 49% in the top 5. thats not to bad.

yea but no wins, a win means alot, beating all competition.

Driver Season races wins t.5 t.10 poles points Rank
Tony S. 1999 34 3 12 21 2 4774 4
Jimmy J. 2002 36 3 6 21 3 4600 5
Ryan N. 2002 36 1 14 22 5 4593 6

Dick Hutcherson, 1965.

Although he was a true rookie in '65, NASCAR had a rule back then that any champion of another sanctioned racing series couldn't run for ROTY. Hutcherson was never allowed to run for the rookie title. His stats are impressive though.

9 wins.
9 poles.
Finished second in the point standings to Ned Jarrett.

I still dont see how people can say newman was more consistent then johnson. Johnson had just as much car problems that year is newman, not to mension being fined 25 driver points. He had more WC points then he did if that doesn't mean someone is more consistent then I guess all those winston cup championships didn't mean squat. Im sorry to bring this up again just frustrates me.

well that makes newman more conisistent if johnson had problems.

No lap3, alot of people said newman was alot better driver because he had alot of chances to win races, but had engine problems and such. Im saying johnson had car problems as well, newmans car problems is no excuse.

Bottom line is that Ryan Newman got far more Top 5's than Jimmie Johnson & thus more points, even tho Jimmie had 3 wins compared to 1 point win for Ryan Neman--albeit He did also win The Winston, btw!

Thus more points ????

Strange If I go look at last years final NWC series points it looks to me jimmy johnson got more points. If getting more points according to that point system, doesn't make you more consecutive then there must have been some pretty bad past champions.

Your going strictly by top 5s and top 10s, why dont you post there top 15s and top 20s.

The winston is not a normall winston cup race, thats why its not counted is one. Not to mension the crash (close to the end), and not getting close to the front until the invert at the last segment.

compare 6 top 5s and 3 wins vs. 1 win and 14 top 5s (not putting top 5s down, I never said he was't a good driver)

From what I have herd, and seen a win is tougher (alot tougher in some cases) then a top 5.
