Katie Kenseth crashed last night during Bandolero practice for an upcoming charity event @ Charlotte Motor Speedway. Fortunately she'll be OK but I'm sure quite painful none the less. I've been hearing Angie Skinner talk about this event on Dave Moody's show for some time now.

CONCORD, N.C. – The wife of NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth left Charlotte Motor Speedway by stretcher early Monday evening after a crash at the race track during a practice session for a charity race next month.

Katie Kenseth crashed in to what typically is the pit road wall in a driving school bandolero vehicle after taking a sharp turn. Her husband rushed to check on her, and emergency track officials loaded her onto a stretcher.

Other NASCAR drivers such as Joey Logano, Casey Mears, Michael McDowell and David Ragan were also in attendance to watch their wives and girlfriends practice for the inaugural Better Half Dash on October 15.

The charity race will benefit Speedway Children’s Charities and Motor Racing Outreach and will feature a 25-lap race on the front stretch quarter-mile oval before the Bank of American 500.

Charlotte Motor Speedway tells NewsChannel 36 Kenseth has been treated and released from a nearby hospital.

Matt Kenseth tweeted late Monday night: "That didn't turn out so well. Katie and I are home, she has a broken scapula and some bumps and bruises. Thanks for all the well wishes."

Ouch, a broken scapula hurts like he77, I unforunately know that for a fact.

She won't be picking up their little one for some months to come. :(

so does she suck it up and race in the better half dash?

hope she gets well soon. :)

I'm hoping they'll put Robin Dallenbach in the car she'd make a great back up driver!

Some recent tweets from Matt Kenseth.....

She said that was the shortest racing career in history!

Katie is feeling pretty good today, and I got to learn something new....how to put a bra ON!

At least they seem to have a sense of humor about all of this. :D

Some of the other drivers in this race include Ashley Allgaier, Jacquelyn Butler (David Ragan), Patricia Driscoll (Kurt Busch), Michelle Gilliland, Shannon Koch, Jami McDowell, Trisha Mears, Melanie Self (Motor Racing Outreach), Angie Skinner, Sabrina Simpson (Joey Logano), Wendy Venturini (Speed) and Nan Zipadelli.

I hope that Wendy can find a driver's suit that fits her ample bosom!

That has to be painful, the Jimmy Spencer visual.

Seriously it shows what just a little speed can do, I have never ran one of those little things but I am sure their design is safe. I am fairly certain they utilize a 5 point harness and a good cage, it makes me wonder if she had her belts pulled in tight enough to work.

I know those cars/karts aren't toys, but they were built in large part for kids to race. To sell the car it has to satisfy a mom and dads scrutiny. Which leads to my questioning the seat belt use.

Not trying to beat her up, Nascar has no real trophy queens, and the wives and gf's are the best eye candy going, I admire them.

I,ve looked at these cars many times. There well built and laid out for safety.
It could very well be that this car was'nt adjusted to fit her correctly. If she's taller than the normal driver and her shoulders where above the normal shoulder belt support upon any impact the belts would pull down on her collar bone and shoulder blades ( Scapula ) and even spine causing this injury.
One of the most common faults I see in many race cars are that the shoulder belts are not correctly mounted, they should be mounted to or ran over a bar thats at or slightly above shoulder level. This prevents spine/back and shoulder injurys from the crushing force that occurs when they are mounted below shoulder height.
The shoulder belts purpose is not to keep you from falling on your head in the event of a rollover like many people beleive it's to keep your torso from moving forward and side to side on an impact.

I'm hoping they'll put Robin Dallenbach in the car she'd make a great back up driver!

It dawned on me a little while ago that Robin is probably in her early 50's now....maybe not a good choice as a backup driver

For those of you who are wondering why I mentioned her, Robin was one of the first women to qualify for a Cup race possibly the youngest person to qualify at that time also? She was 18-20 years old when she qualified for the Michigan race in 1982 in one of JD Stacy's cars. Prior to that she raced at New Symrna Speedway in Florida, Good lil racer!
