That's Racin'

In a case that has left Atlanta Motor Speedway officials and local law enforcement officials baffled, seven custom-made zebras were stolen Sunday night from the grassy area above turns one and three.
Six of the zebras were approximately 8 feet tall and 15 feet long.

Track officials said the zebras, created for Warner Brothers Films and Alcon Entertainment to use in promotional events for the upcoming release of the movie "Racing Stripes," were worth about $11,200. They were on display for Sunday's Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 NASCAR Nextel Cup race.

"We had planned to use these zebras at all of our upcoming 'Racing Stripes' events to help support the film, and we had also had a request to send one of the zebras to the Victory Junction Gang Camp when we were finished with them," said Tony Loiacono, resident and CEO of The Next Box, a marketing company representing Warner Brothers. "We're really hoping to find them, because we don't have enough time to create a whole new herd."

Track president Ed Clark offered a reward of two tickets to the March NASCAR race for anyone providing information leading to the safe return of the zebras.

That is just plain sick!
I remember seeing the zebras during the broadcast and thought they were clever. :dual9mm:

Three Of Seven Zebras Stolen From AMS Recovered: Not wishing to be identified, a caller named “Larry” helped point Atlanta Motor Speedway and Warner Bros. Pictures officials to two of the seven zebras stolen after Sunday’s Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500, where a promotion took place for the upcoming film Racing Stripes. Larry said the zebras might have been accidentally taken by a few of the youths in his party at Sunday’s race. After hearing news of the stolen zebras on Monday, Larry called Warner Bros. officials and offered to return the zebras. “I saw the kids taking them, and I really thought it was kind of amusing,” Larry said. “It’s kind of like when you take home a banner after the race as a souvenir. But when I saw on the internet that they were wanting to use them again – and how expensive they were – I thought it was only right to call. We just overstepped our boundaries a little.” Larry said the two zebras – 8 feet tall by 15 feet long – are doing fine and will be returned to Tony Loiacono, president and CEO of The Next Box, a marketing company hired by Warner Bros. for the event. “They’ve been grazing out here all morning, and we’re taking good care of them,” Larry joked. “They’ve been eating heavy and should be fine.” Larry refused the reward of two tickets to the March 20 Golden Corral 500, saying he was ashamed to have been involved in the removal of the zebras from speedway property. “I don’t want the notoriety,” Larry said, “I just want to do the right thing.” Atlanta Motor Speedway officials also located a third zebra in the Shedd’s Spread Country Campground RV lot on Monday morning, thanks to a call from alert race fan Ray Macolly. The other four zebras are still on the loose. All seven zebras were placed in the grassy areas overlooking turns 1 and 3 at Atlanta Motor Speedway prior to the start of the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 weekend. They were created for Warner Bros. Pictures and Alcon Entertainment to use in promotional events for the upcoming release of the movie Racing Stripes. Anyone with any additional information regarding the final four zebras is asked to call Loiacono at (760) 533-4434. - AMS PR
