I remember looking through all the newspaper articles and these NASCAR books. Its amazing how many Busch Series drivers who fared pretty well in Busch didnt do so well in Winston Cup.

A couple names that come to mind are Casey Atwood and Buckshot Jones.

Good point. One name that comes to mind right off hand is former winston west champion Chad Little, who had a six win season in Busch a few years back.

I don't know if I would say that Casey failed. I thought he did good with Ray until the Mayfield move and then being booted to the 7 team with all of the disruption that came along with it was kind of a nail in a coffin. Buckshot wasn't probably ready and then going to PE wasn't a good move IMO. Would have been better off to stay in Busch until he could have got on with a decent team and backing in WC. Would agree that doing good in Busch isn't a given that you will do good in WC Jeff Green is an example of doing good in one, but not the other to me also.

I think there are two who stick out in my mind more than any other. One is Rick Mast. Rick had a decent run in the Busch series, nothing spectacular but he did manage to get the job done.

The one who really disappoined me was Robert Pressley. It was a blast to watch Robert run anywhere he wanted on the track while in the Busch series, and then to see him not really make it in Winston Cup.

Some of these guys do well in the Craftsman Truck Series.

Both Mast and Pressley had decent equipment and both were just one tick away from being successful in Winston Cup. Of course this is only the begining of a loooooooong list, so for good measure, I'll toss a few other names in the mix. Kenny and Mike Wallace, Rodney Combs, Randy LaJoie, Jeff and David Green, Larry Pearson and some others. The one one-thousandth of a second reaction time necessary seems to be a major dividing line between making the right decision of which way to go to avoid a wreck or a good pass and that in turn translates to who will or will not make it in the "big show".

The smart ones are the ones who know thier limitations and don't try to push the envelope. Like the Winston Cup drivers who know when it is time to retire before they destroy any creditability established in thier prime.

Of course this is my opinion and comments pro and con are expected. :D

Buckshot ??? Yep, unhuh, sure. Guess since it was his own team for awhile he had no one but himself to blame. Talk about falling on your own sword.......... it goes with the old adage, IF .................................................... a monkey had a rubber azz he'd bounce.

He could've been better if he had more experience on the track and if he had better equipment.

Roy Jones didnt care if he wasted money on his Cup or Busch Ride to get the teams better becuase he had alot of money in the 1st place. if it wasnt for Buckshot going to PE2 Motorsports, Georgia Pacific wouldnt be their sponser.

one that comes to mind that couldnt even make it i busch but trys nothing against the earnhardt name but kerry earnhardt

Kerry didnt have the talent race. He had the talent to work on the cars in the shop,
