From BGNracing.com, thought you might be interested:

"Another Busch Driver going to Cup? A BGN regular will attempt two Cup races at the end of this season in a previously unannounced deal. We'll have details on Monday. Guess who it is and win a team hat and polo shirt. Send your guess to [email protected] A winner will be selected at random from correct entries. Entries can be submitted until the time of the announcement. One guess per person."

My friend and I were trying to think who it could be. Our best guess is someone from ppc racing.

Wimmer has already been announced. Unless he's got a new sponsor, which I doubt.

Agreed, the only other name I could think of could be Keller, but I'll stick with Wimmer.

Scott or Jason either one from the ppc teams is a pretty good guess.

Kinda wonder about Dave Carroll's Dr. Pepper team with Ron Hornaday, though I think Ron is going WC next year anyway. That might not make sense.

What is Bobby Hamilton Jr's status as far as WC goes? There was a lot of talk earlier this season about a few WC races for that team.

Ron Hornaday has already announced he'll be doing two races in Cup for that minority team to get it started, so it shouldn't be him.

I forgot about Gremlin Boy, I mean Bobby Hamilton Jr. He's probably not a bad guess at all.

RPM, we have too many nicknames for the drivers. We have to stop bringing them in here, we might get hurt for using them so often.

What are you talking about? Every driver has nicknames, and people usually know who you are talking about. You just get so used to calling them by that, it becomes bad habit. Besides, I have nothing against Gremlin Boy, but he does amuse me.

PPC is looking to run cup sometime soon so my guess would be Jason Keller. If not him then my pick is "Magic Shoes" Mike Mcglouglin(sp?) in a 3rd Gibbs car, and a chevy at that???

Ya'll might want to check this out. It's a weekly nickname feature.

Nickname that Driver Link

It will not be Mike McLaughlin b/c he won't be returning to Joe Gibbs racing next year.

Jason Keller is questionable, b/c although he has a lot of experience, he has said that he doesn't want to move up to Winston Cup b/c he wants to be with his family more than the Cup schedule allows for.

Scott Riggs is looking pretty good in this, and with the latest trend of young Busch drivers moving up to Cup, maybe he's going to be next.

It doesn't even necessarily need to be a top 10 driver.

Perhaps Larry Foyt, Shane Hmiel, Casey Mears.

My $$$ in on a young driver.

Larry Foyt's sponsor, Harrah's, does want to move up to Cup. It wouldn't be too hard for Larry Foyt to field anothe car for the last two races. That's the driver I will bet it is.

Shane Hmiel.... no, just no.

Casey Mears is leaving that team next year, isn't he? Or at least the sponsor is leaving, so I doubt it will be him.

Its most likely Kevin Grubb and the 54 Toy's R Us Chevrolet team. The team is suppose to move up to Cup next year.

The 54 team already has ran a race this yeah Richmond I belive, and they were to run a few more races but he has been sittin gout a few races. Thankfully he is back now.

Larry Foyt and Harrah's are together for a couple ore years and all the rumors I have heard is that Larry WILL be the driver of the 14 Pontaic in Winston cup and sponcered by Harrah's. So that is a very good possiblity, either driving AJ's 50 carthat has ran a time or two this year or the 14, But Mike Wallace is giving that car some of its best runs?

AJ Foyt doesn't care how Mike Wallace is doing in that team, the only real reason why he started that team was to try and build up a team for Larry Foyt. He's made public statements that he's not really even interested in NASCAR.

I heard from a good source that Mike Wallace is trying to get Conseco move to another team with him. He doesn't really like driving for AJ Foyt, but he wasn't going to turn down the opportunity.

Right now AJ has two good things going for him and one is Mike Wallace and the other is A.J. IV his IRL teams have struggledand will continue to do so IMO.

Conseco is in finalcial troubl i thought so if they can get out of the deal with Foyt (which i am sure is almost done so that Harrah's could sponcer Larry) they won't be back. But it would be cool to see Mike take that sponcer too the 33 car, or the 55 isn't Square D leaveing the 55 as well?

If AJ is doing it for his son I hope Mike Wallace can get Conseco to another car, it would be for the best.

I think Conseco is tied in for another year unless they go bankrupt, but the 4th year might have been an option. I don't know the details.

Looks like the answer may be Mike Harmon.

Caught this little blurb over at Jayski's. The new team and its schedule is confirmed. The link of that to team to Harmon is something that Jayski is hearing. It might be some other dirver, but as for myself I know nothing about any of these folks, so have no reason to dispute the conclusion.

"A new NASCAR Winston Cup series race team has designed an innovative and creative way for sponsors to get involved with NASCAR motorsports. The new team is the #93 GIC MotorSports NASCAR Winston Cup series racing team based out of Mooresville, NC. The team also has business offices in Bakersfield, CA and Daytona Beach, FL. James Whitener from Bakersfield, California is the owner of this new Winston Cup team. Whitener, also owns and operates Global Industrial Contractors, corporately located in Shafter, CA. Global Industrial Contractors is an industrial construction company that does HVAC, electrical and mechanical design, installation and construction. The GIC MotorSports #93 Ford Taurus NASCAR Winston Cup race team will be attempting two NASCAR Winston Cup races this season. The team's first race will be the Phoenix International Raceway scheduled for November 10th. The second race scheduled for the team will be the season finale NASCAR Winston Cup Series Race at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 17th. The #93 GIC team also is planning to be running the full Winston Cup series schedule next year beginning with Daytona 500 in February 2003. The GIC team's Ford Taurus racecars, motors and other equipment have been purchased from several of the top name players in the motorsports business. The team plans to have driver announcements coming soon. The GIC team is currently seeking sponsorships on all scalable levels for either of the two NASCAR Series races and welcome any inquires regarding participation. Interested parties may contact the team at: [email protected] or by calling the team at 386-566-3972. (GIC MotorSports PR), looks like Wihiener has/has some involvement with Mike Harmon in the BGN series"

I kinda doubt the racers would agree with that characterazation Rock.

More likely these people are chasing their dream, different perspectives I reckon.

Definitely.

More power to them, but let's be realistic here.

Brand new team with a guy who struggles to make the Busch series races.

Call me cynical, but I don't foresee great things from these guys.

But, hey - I've got nothing against them making the attempt. The BAM group, Back Row Joe and Harmon can have a competition amongst themselves.

I agree, they might not have great things coming, but if you have the sponsorship might as well make a run in Cup instead of sticking in Busch. Maybe they will be in the back every week, but maybe, just maybe, they will surprise us.

imo, it makes no more sense to run at the back in Busch than to run at the back in WC.....the price of the car is fairly close, tires still cost the same tho ya might use a one or two less sets, the hauler cost near the same.

Ya might be able to save a few bucks here and there but over-all why bother?

Last place in a Cup event generally pays 35G's, in a Busch event ya gotta finish 3rd to make that much.

For the independent and/or smaller team what experience can you get running 22 Busch races that you can't get running 10 WC events? And what good is that experience going to do you when you switch to a car with a third more horespower? Ya gotta relearn how to get in and off the corners in a more powerful and heavier car.

A driver could muddle around all year in Busch and nobody really notice......but one really good Cup run and ya might be on yer way. Besides, get a lap down and start on-camera for the rest of the race giving your sponsor logo time on tv. I used to think Dave did that on purpose.:D

Mike Harmon...

That's an interesting name to see move up to Cup. If you remember a couple years back, he was slated to be competing for rookie of the year in Winston Cup for the #90 Big Daddy's BBQ Sauce Ford, driving for Junie Donlavey. Last minute the sponsor pulled out, leaving Mike Harmon without a ride. Since then he's been trying to build his own BGN team and eventually take another shot at Cup.

Good luck to Harmon. He's not getting any younger, so why not try going to Cup again?

Dem good recall there RPM.

I forgot about the "Big Daddys's" deal. What a brouhaha that almost turned into. Hurt Junie big time in the pocketbook if I recall. Seems the deal was fully agreed to and Junie started working on funds of his own expecting the sponsor bucks, but the check never came.

What a turn of events for Mike this season. Best to him.

Big Daddy's left a hole in a number of team's pockets, Junie probably feeling the worst of it. I don't think Junie has ever been able to fully recover from that coop. Big Daddy's claimed that they had "lost" 6 million dollars. Yeah, right.

With Mike Harmon somehow surviving that Busch wreck a couple weeks ago, maybe that opened up his eyes that he needs to get moving. I wish him the best of luck in Cup, even if he only is able to start off as field filler. That would be a small victory in a long battle for him.

I hope Harmon does well. Whether he is field filler or not. Granted he hasn't been making some Busch races, but who knows what he might be able to do in cup.

I give credit to Harmon for trying. If it doesn't end up working out, the worst he could go back to is his BGN car, which is already basically field filler.

How many teams was "Big Daddy's" going to sponsor? I remember it being on the 90 and then the 41.

I think they still sponsor an Arca or Winston West car. Either teams are still falling for their ploy, or Bid Daddy's has brought some real money to the table. I don't know why Big Daddy's even tries in racing any more, they've already left a bad enough taste in our mouths.

The correct answer was Mike Harmon, if anyone was interested. BGNRacing.com announced that today.

You make more money finishing in last in cup than winning in busch, so I guess it is a good move if he can make the field.

I doubt he'll make the field, but I give him credit for trying. If Carl Long can make it, why not Harmon?

OK, RPM you are 1 of 19. Good luck in being the one who wins a polo shirt.

Mike will assuredly qualify for 71's "Herd of Turtles".

And odds of his making the show will be very high agianst. Considering that Mike has pretty much lived in provisional land for BGN starts this season (never higher than 31st) the odds of making a Winston Cup race on time are very slim.

Stranger things have happened, and Mike is as deserving a candidate to catch a break as any.

Yeah, but I don't think Mike Harmon is starting this BGN team. I think he's being used like Team BAM used Shawna Robinson to start up.
