Biffle agrees with Tony

If the trend continues and more drivers speak out against this lug nut fiasco will brain fine everyone?

Not sure if you saw the post in one of the other threads but the Drivers Council spoke up just last night stating that they were going to pay Tony's fines related to this. THAT speaks volumes IMO.

Drivers Council statement.....

We as drivers believe Tony has the right to speak his opinion on topics that pertain to a sport that he has spent nearly two decades helping build as both a driver and an owner. While we do not condone drivers lashing out freely at NASCAR, we do feel Tony was in his rights to state his opinion. We as a Council support him and do not agree with the fine. Therefore, we fellow council members have agreed to contribute equally to paying his fine.

I applaud all the drivers who are pitching in to pay the fine. Is Brian France ultimately responsible for the dropping this fine on Tony? Sorry if I sound stupid, but I try to stay out of the politics of NASCAR and just enjoy the racing. However, I do feel this fine is total BS and whoever is responsible for the fine needs to be bitch slapped.

The wheels are definitely coming off at NASCAR headquarters. Fining people for voicing concerns over legitimate safety problems! At best it looks like a cover-up... at worst it looks like NASCAR is hoping for more big crashes to hopefully gain viewers.

It seems to me that NASCAR might want to do some testing to see how 3 or 4 lugs nuts hold up. I'm thinking the driver would pit from a bad vibration before a tire falls off.

I'm thinkin' you're right.

How many have needed to come in for a vibration?
Several of them.

The almost immediate vibration occurs when one or more of the 3 or 4 lug nuts installed are not tightened correctly. That has far more to do with this than the number of lugs in use.

Again, just my opinion.

There seems to be an increase in drivers needing to come in for a vibration/loose wheel since NASCAR began to allow 4 lug nuts.

Yes, that seems to be the case.

Maybe it's down to the 11 second pitstop.

The real issue isn't how many lug nuts it takes to hold a wheel on. The issue is NASCAR's penalizing a driver for raising a safety issue. It doesn't matter if there really is a safety issue; that can be investigated after the question has been raised. If you start penalizing people for pointing out safety issues, even ones that turn out to be non-issues, then they'll stop pointing out any issues, including those that turn out to kill someone.

NA$CAR is saving dough by eliminating the 5 lug nut rule. Now they don't have to pay the 43 inspectors it takes every race to enforce it. At least that's what DW and Gordon said during today's practice.

Yeah, they're saving about $2 million per year.

Oh boy. Can Nascar fine the council?

I am hearing Brian F. is considering mandatory cautions every 75 miles, no advancement of position during caution pit stops and anyone pitting under green must remain in the pit stall for a minimum of 30 seconds and the driver must drink at least one bottle/can of the official NASCAR beverage. That will fix this issue the Brian way!

Why is it that the only guys I have heard bitching are the ones losing? Correct me if I am wrong on this please.

Maybe the drivers council should be talking to the owners about telling their team to put all the lug nuts on? Or are the teams such wusses that they need a rule to say that they need to? Wheels haven't been coming off, just been coming loose and they have to come in. Now logic says that the owners and CC's would say we don't need a rule we just go ahead and put all the lug nuts on and tighten them. Problem solved. I guess it is easier to blame Brian since he doesn't sign the checks instead of blaming the owner and CC.
