Dale Earnhardt, Inc. has announced various internal motorsports promotions effective for the 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series season. Tony Eury, Sr. has been promoted from Crew Chief of the #8 Chevrolet to Director of Competition. Steve Hmiel, previous Director of Competition, will now be the Technical Director for Dale Earnhardt, Inc.
Pete Rondeau has been moved to the Crew Chief position of the #8 Budweiser Chevrolet. He took over as Crew Chief on the #15 NAPA Chevrolet during the latter portion of the 2004 Nextel Cup Series season. Rondeau led Earnhardt, Jr. to a Busch Series win at Bristol Motor Speedway this year and Ron Fellows to a second-place finish at Watkins Glen International.
Tony Eury, Jr. will Crew Chief the #15 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet of Michael Waltrip. Eury, Jr. was the Car Chief on the #8 Chevrolet for the past five seasons and was also instrumental in Earnhardt, Jr’s two Busch Series championships. The #8 and #15 core members of the teams will collectively transfer intact with the promotions of Eury Jr. and Rondeau, as well. Richie Gilmore, Vice-President of Motorsports for DEI, said the moves come on the heels of a successful season and the teams wanted to improve and achieve even greater success. “We all sat down and talked because we want all of our teams to produce even better results,” Gilmore said. “Everyone is excited about this and we’re already getting ready for Daytona testing. We think the results will show up immediately.”

i think this is going to work out well. staying with the family just doesn't seem like it worked, and i think jr will do better now

I'm glad they finally made some moves....I'm sure its hard to leave "family" behind, but you have to do what you have to do sometimes....

When the music stops, who won't have a chair to sit down at?

The Eury's took a lot of lip from Lil'E when things went wrong. A lot of crew chiefs and car chiefs would have taken some of that stuff personal. Family can sometimes overlook a lot of this as they know how things are. I wonder if Pete will as well. Also, is Steve still Lil'E's spotter or does that go to someone else?

Big help tp Mikey! LOL He might just as well change teams now. Maybe he'll get along well with "Goofy" as his crew chief, but I don't think that's a well put together combination.

Did DEI make the right moves? I think we will be seing more changes in 2005 that will NOT please many.

DEI needs something outside it's core people. Shuffling them around aint gonna get it done. Just ask R Gordon and Harvick.

A shock man or something. They need something other than crankin' wedge in and out of the car when it's not perfect. Seems when their car isn't right, that's it. It isn't right for the rest of the day.

Another thought --- Tony Sr. is 50(at least)--- maybe he wants off the road. He's been trying to turn CC duties over to Jr. for a year, but he keeps having to mediate between the Jrs when they start fighting.

And, part of Dale Jr's problem is himself. I've heard him many a time over-ride the call of Tony Jr. on a set-up change, and then wind up saying he goofed.
