Here kitty, kitty, kitty
I know that we all have our own opinions and so let's hear some of them. Through the years, we've all seen guys come and go in Cup cars. In the past, it took time for a driver to find a top rated car and so he had to more or less pay his dues for a good ride. These days, that isn't so and some rookies can step right into a top notch car right off the bat, as we've seen for the last four or five years. But, even taking that into consideration, name some of the biggest disappointments that you've seen. I think one of the biggest has to be Phil Parsons. Here's a guy who comes from a racing family and was given the chance to drive a pretty good car in it's time, the #4 Kodak Chevy. Within a few short races, Phil was released and Ernie Irvan got a chance to see what he could do, and the rest as they say, is history. Randy Lajoie was given a shot in a Bill Davis car and he too was released after a few short races. Some disappointments were gone because of injuries such as Tim Steele, whom many thought would take Winston Cup by storm. Still others were given rides and were more or less released after a season or two without much success, such as Buckshot Jones and Casey Atwood. Then you have what I consider disappointments, but have been able to hang on to rides for a long time in guys like Michael Waltrip, though his value has come on strong in the last five years or so. Kenny Wallace, a driver who I think just missed his calling has never won a Cup race and came up the same time as two other champs, Jeff Gordon and Bobby Labonte. I am sure there are people who will say that Kyle Petty is a big disappointment when it comes to driving, but there was a time when he darned near won the title and he owned the track at Rockingham. The series will always have back markers and that's part of the sport, but there will also always be guys who seem to have the potential to become the next champ, but for some reason or another, just don't even come close. So, with all that, my top five most disappointing drivers are...
1. Phil Parsons
2. Randy Lajoie
3. Tim Steele
4. Buckshot Jones
5. Casey Atwood
Special mention to Michael Waltrip and Kenny Wallace
