Bill Elliott mulls options for limited schedule: Three years after his full-time Nextel Cup career ended, Bill Elliott is still much in demand as a driver. Elliott, now running a partial Cup schedule, said Thursday that he's weighing several offers for next season. He has been mentioned as a possible part-time replacement for Dale Jarrett in Robert Yates' No. 88 Ford, with younger drivers running the balance of the schedule. Elliott also is among the candidates to drive a Toyota Camry in Cup next year. "There are several good options out there," Elliott said. "Within a month I should have an idea what I'm going to do." He said he'd like to work out a deal that would serve as a steppingstone for his son Chase, 10, should he desire to pursue a career in NASCAR. - The Tennessean

well his son only has 2 years before somebody finds him and puts him on the list of developmental drivers to enter the cup series in 2010. At this point, is Bill doing it for the money or the joy of racing? Who's the rookie running the 90 busch car right now? Maybe he and bill will split the 88 ride? He's already running like 10 races for evernham.

He's a heck of a driver for hire, that's for sure.

Bill is very much in the mold of Kenny Schrader in that he loves to race. The big difference between Kenny and Bill has been the horific accidents that Bill has been in and survived. Also, Kenny has driven in many different types of cars and Bill of course, has made plenty of money doing what he and his family has made their name doing.

As for money, we really don't know what is the need of the Elliott's. He and his family live in such a different style than, I dare say, most of us here on r/f. So who knows what is the motivation for him. I suspect that he still has that itch to race, and of course, the money that he can command is still pretty good. It's never too late to make more money for your future and family.

I just think of his history with manufacturers. His family has a deep history with Fords and when he switched to Dodges with Evernham, I could see his father not only turning over in his grave, but doing 360's over and over. Then earlier this year, he piloted a Cheby at Daytona and I thought that his father at that time just shook his head and wondered where he had gone wrong. If Bill decides to drive a Toyota Camry in the future, I'm afraid that the grave where his father is buried just might explode. :) But seriously, in this day of equal cars and templates, one make or another just isn't what it used to be. When they come up with the COF, the only differences will be the decals and a few engine differences.

if he aint in it for the money (i didnt figure he was), i wonder what he's doing with it all? he could probably give 4/5 of his money to VJGC and still have enough for 100 ferarri's left over.

Mag, I don't know what you have in your wallet, but I for sure don't know what Bill has in his, and I don't know what his bills are either. As I mentioned, we here in our little corner or the world sure as hell don't live like those who make millions, and as such, I don't know what they do with their money or where they put it. We've seen where even when Kurt Busch puts a million into the VJGC and people question not only his motives, but his honesty. Kind of makes you wonder where those people are putting their money. Bill Gates can give millions, almost billions to charity and there will always be people who say that he didn't give enough. Who are we to tell where people put their hard earned money? People who make millions of dollars have a totally different financial problems than those of us who are only making a mere salary or less. You might be surprise to find out that Elliott and his family are giving millions already to the VJGC, but then again, we don't know. One question for you, and I understand that you are still a youngster here, but the question sill should be something to learn from...just how much of your earnings are you giving to the VJGC? What percentage? And one last question...are you sure that you are qualified to tell the world who owes what to whom? It's very easy to tell people where they should put their money, but until you have the opertunity to put that amount of money where you'd like it, it's best to keep ones own opinions to oneself. But of course, we are free to give our own opinons and say what we wish. :)

I read that Bill is trying to still be a presence in racing so that when his son is at the age to make a decision to race or not, that door will be open. I suspect he does testing and races occasionally because he simply enjoys the challenges and loves the racing. Now that he can pretty much make his own schedule he probably enjoys it even more.

Bill would be a nice addition to Yates and (imo) bring instant recognition, and quite possibly, success to the #88 ride. God knows they need something. Unfortunately, he's not a *young gun* :(

PLEASE Bill don't drive a Toyoater. I had a hard enough time with the whole Dodge thing, then that Chebby thing. Oh the humanity.................... :idunno:
